Thanks for the notes. I am in the embrionic writing stages of a manipulation routine which will use balls, coins and cards in a sort of "sorceror's apprentice" scenario. Right now the productions lights with cards I've been working with have been the "snap production," the "perfect production," and the "Cardini single card production." Split fans will probably make an appearance.

My goal is manipulation with a plot, so it will be interesting to see where this goes. I figure I'm a good year or two from a presentable project. Slow and steady wins the race, eh?

Thanks again.

CMW:

Slow and steady does win more races then not. putting together a great act takes time and is certainly not something that can or should be rushed.

A proper act requires research of character, plot, theme and magical content. All of these take time to develop because all of them must relate back to each other in order to work the best that they can.

CMW, can you describe your act idea a bit more? What you have so far, what the character and plot is? I ask because I am 1) curious and 2) would like to be able to help you and possibly give you some ideas that you may be able to use.

I would like to add to what Kyle is saying in that I have noticed alot of magic that doesn't involve plot or purpose. I really like the fact that magicians are as concerned with presentation and the entertainment value as you guys. For only being in magic about a year I have noticed a trend through working in a magic shop and reading / watching movies. I always try to make a demonstration fun to watch or captivating.
Man, I hope he chooses a card soon!

It gets to there point where a trick is just a trick but a well put together routine becomes magical entertainment. I would much rather be entertaining a group then fooling them.
