So I finally set up a paypal account....it took me two years to figure out.
Now ive finally registered an ebay account and I actually managed to purchase something. It says payment pending. Now....i tried to sell something on ebay and it said I need a credit card. Is this true? One cannot sell anything on ebay without a credit card? Rod |

They need to know who you actually are. They don't want the usual run of scamming scumbags that they've thrown off Ebay to rejoin.

Myth # 46: To sell on eBay, you must register a credit card and bank account:

Watch out for these outrageous ebay fees. eBay was the word is WAS a cool place to sell. no more, it's so overrated/hyped now.
check out etsy dot com or tophatter dot com much faster sales turnover at both of those sites. eBay has kinda died. but depends upon what your selling etsy actually has kept the bills paid for 3yrs now although I'm always frigging busy 12hrs a day making things, and packing, shipping wife is always listing several different things every day on etsy, and does the live auction thing on tophatter every evening we have fun, and don't work for anyone, do whatever we want when we want. |

Usually took a beating but it paid off. Now, I have my own website and many private clients. Ebay wants the credit card info so they can get their fees each month. It's pretty much that simple, and more reliable for them than a bank account.

Fish...Try calling Ebay. They will help you. It worked when you did it with Paypal.

I doubt they'll help me get a credit card...but I guess I could give it a whirl. I went to EYSY andTophatter but it looks like mostly crafts. Not what I'm looking for. Thanks guys.

Does it have to be a credit card or can it be a debit card? If you don't mind spending an extra three dollars each time you add money to it, you can get one of those at Wal*Mart!

I haven't bought anything from eBay since they went strictly paypal. I used to be a big eBay supporter, but I bought everything with money orders (not having or wanting a checking account).

Ed...You can always buy overseas on Ebay. They accept money orders and Western Union and can refuse using Paypal.
I'm surprised no one has held their feet to the fire on this here in the US.

Ed, ive been wondering about this for awhile now. Can you tell me more about this walmart credit card?

It's not a "credit card" it's a "prepaid debt card." They are at the register where the gift cards are displayed.
You buy the card for three dollars and put an amount on it. (I think you have to use cash or another debt card, you cannot use a credit card. But look at the back of the card when you buy it... I'm not too certain) You get a blank card with the amount on it that you are free to spend. You cannot add any additional amount to this card. In buying the card, you give personal information which is used to personalize a card for you which will be sent to you in the mail. This card you can add money to at any Wal*Mart. Each transaction will cost an additional 3 dollars.

And does it act like a credit card ? Eg. Book a hotel room? Rent a car? Etc.?

I understand motels, hotels and car rentals will block off a bunch of money from use, to cover their potential charges. So, a limited debit card probably would not work there unless you had a high amount in it.
