My winter spot in on my sofa. I will acknowledge, not a lot of hats from there!

I like this idea; what a life to live...one day I will
get there...

Meanwhile; how about Vegas or California or Florida
during the "off" season for us Northerners?

Busking was origionaly an indoor sport.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Believe it or not, Boulder, Colorado now has very mild winters and it's right next door relatively to you. There are 4 whole blocks to perform on the Pearl Street Mall. Temps are around 42 degrees, sunny, with plenty of people on weekends. Worth a shot...

In one of Richard Websters Palmistry Books he talks about doing readings inside a shopping mall, anyone ever busk doing magic/mindreading in a mall?

Yes, and I've been repeatedly escorted off the premises by the rent-a-cops.

Malls are the uncrackable nut in the US... believe me, I've tried.

The "it seems" tells me you haven't been there yet. Try it you may like it.

I actually never considered busking indoors for the winter, here in Missouri the winter is just unpredictable, last winter felt like fall all the way through, some winters we get ice storms and the power is out for weeks, I'm personally looking arround right now, getting ready to start pitching to restaurants for a gig since it's getting cold, but I do wonder if I could find some place indoor that I could busk... I'm quite some ways from the nearest city, which seems to be an important aspect in sucessful busking, but I wonder if I called arround if I could find somewhere that would let me set up inside, I feel like if you presented yourself correctly to a mall you possibly could manage to set up there, but everybody seems to say it's not possible, still you never know until you ask, and I feel like malls, or any inside venue really, are absolutely the exception to the "ask forgiveness not permission" rule. anyway I think I'm gonna go searching around for places to set up inside, not a lot of options arround here but I can definitely look.

So, where "inside" do you recommend where you won't be escorted off by the rent-a-cops?

I'll give some advice that I recently found in "X Marks the Spot" Lecture notes by Brother Paul West. HE says he was in a pub when a guitar player came in, handed out flyers that said he was a traveling guitar player and would play a couple songs for everyone. He then collected tips afterwords then moved on to the next bar/pub. Paul said he did this with magic with great success doing 5 or 6 bars a night.

I don't know about the US, but I ran into a guy from AUS who did
a self made movie about busking. He busked primarily indoors and
did so to travel across the world...indoors.

Doesn't pertain to America but I spent many a christmas season street performin/buskin during the Christmas season in Germany at the Christkindmarkte/Weihnachtsmarkte. These are Christmas Markets which start this week and are hugely popular and attract great numbers in the larger cities. Of course weather is a factor but a little Gluewein helps keep you warm Smile Very healthy and full hats if you have the right show. Smile

I have a feeling here in my town, you would be thrown out in a second... "Sir, you can't do that here. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave."

The idea is you go to the bartender and ask first.

Who says:

"I'll have to check with the manager."

Who says:

"I'll have to check with the owner."

Who says with a sneer:

"We don't have entertainment and besides, there's liability issues and there's a special permit if you want to sell alcohol and have live entertainment... you have insurance, don't you?"

Ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
