I was on the bus today and although I do magic etc. sometimes to people waiting (they always look so miserable anyways) a friend suggested that I try eating fire inside the bus.

I knew he was joking but then I thought of it. I know no one would get hurt if I ate fire on the bus as opposed to spitting fire on the bus. I ignored the no smoking sign and took out a torch lit it up and played around with the flame a bit and finished it by eating it.

It was kinda cool but for some reason it made the people sitting to my sides a little nervous. Even more surprising everyone sitting behind me on the bus looked rather indifferent. And the bus driver didn't even notice.

Smile

So my question to you is , do you guys ever do anything on the bus? And if so, what? It seems like a great place to test out new routines.

Joculari,

They were trying not too encourage you.
Your lucky someone didn't remove you.
With heightened concerns about terrorism etc, I would be very mindful of playing with items like that in a public place.

If you have a burning desire...

Just my two cents...

Cheers - El Lamo

P.S. I think bus stops would be a neat place to perform, especially to busk. I have never performed on a bus. It certainly is a trapped audience.

I suppose you're right. Well most of the passengers already saw me doing magic earlier so they weren't so alarmed . But you're right, not too much of a good idea. Dangerously fun, but still not a good idea .

A couple years ago I used to perform on the bus. I did not have a car at the time, so that was my main transportation. I found so many people to be much happier when their normal bus ride was hit with a hint of magic. Smile

I got over my fear of performing for people from interacting with my fellow passengers. It was great. Now I have a car, I rarely take the bus. Whenever I do however need to take it, I will be ready with my magic.

By all means, if you take the bus, use it to your best advantage. People are always excited to see what you have to show them. Just be careful and mindful of what your doing.

Congratulations! You committed a felony in many states! Using flammable chemicals in a moving vehicle is something that can get you jail time in many cities.

In factm, IIRC, the ICC (Interstate Commerce Commission) has very specific regulations about even transporting flammable chemicals on public transportation - it's a NO-NO.

This is NOT something to repeat. If there is a Transit Cop on board, you will be arrested and you will, in all probability, go to jail.

BAD move! One person screams "FIRE!" and you have a bus full of panicked people. And you sitting there with a lit torch. VERY BAD place to be, honest!

However, other forms of magic on a bus are perfectly okay, as far as I know, so long as no money changes hands (most transit systems have rules about panhandling and "games of chance").

I've done everything from CMH to paper hat tears on a bus. Usually, I like doing something that happens in MY hands and with ordinary items.

Money is generally not a good thing to do as it draws attention to the fact that you have money to play with - making you a possible target. Been there, done that, almost got a full set of lumps for it, too.

Sponges, rubber bands, hot rod, Gem Buster, CT, some card stuff like the SLop Shuffle, and the like work fine. Even some rope work plays well, but keep it small, in your hands and something you can do while sitting in those cramped seats.

Hope this helps!

I often get an entire double decker watching me on the top deck of a bus.

Did this on a public bus once in London, should have seen the drivers face as I got off.

When I rode the bus, I did magic there. I was quickly known as the magician, and even more quickly, I ran out of tricks, lol. I couldn't really do card tricks without fearing for the well being of the cards, and the trick for that matter. of coarse, no one believed THAT excuse, and for the rest of the year I was pestered to do card tricks on the bus. I never did, but it sure bugged the people who wanted to see the trick. Smile
