Just reread what I consider a very interesting post:

Moreover, in my opinion, in the next twenty years or so, the use of paper or plastic playing cards may possibly become, for the most part, obsolete in cards games for any significant stakes. I believe that gin rummy, poker, bridge, etc., may all be played in some type of electronic setting and the boards to play these games will be inexpensive and readily available to the masses for use in their home games.

Another reason for electronic poker tables is that it is cheaper, faster and removes most errors. Even a professional dealer is, after all, only human. There are a couple of casinos that can only spread poker because they have electronic tables. It saves them so much on manpower, training, handling chips etc. making it very profitable as compared with real dealers.

I definately agree that we will see an increase in this area, and it has already begun in many of the smaller casinos/venues around the world. Are "card men" a dying breed outside the magic community or will the sheer quaintness of real cards and chips be enough for us in the future?

That there will be new tricks, in what essentially becomes a different trade, is beyond doubt I think. But if we talk about the card handling skills we love so much, and put so much effort into? I don't know. Great issues to think about Cagliostro.

These are sort of half way there kinda ..... if you click the video on the right you will see what I mean.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

I played on electric tables in Spain, Portugal and on a cruise ship in the Carribean. Certainly beats not playing at all ... Smile

In some country around the world (France) playing a game 100% electronic is simply forbidden by the law. (I don't speak for slot machines, only for poker, roulette, blackjack, baccarat etc etc...)

Oh! yes, in some french casino you will find some electronic roulettes, but the game is not 100% electronic, a croupier is needed to... To spin the ball! Yes, the croupier just have to spin the ball, he does that all along the night... What a job!

But the law can change...

We have that here in Vegas also, that's all he does is spin the ball and make change and payouts. Also they have a dice game with no one to run it except the computer. You never see anyone playing any sort of real money on it, just the tourists who are killing time or don't have much to gamble with.
