I love watching cups and balls routines. What is your favorite cups and balls routine that is unusual or contains something that you did not expect? If possible, please provide a link!

I have posted several video links in the "favourite C&B routines" thread here http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=115&35

Most of them are unique. Not necessarily all unusual, though most quite different from more "traditional" routines.

Gdw's list is pretty much along my own taste
Kent Gunn's routine however seems to me, to be -to this day- the "best routine" since Tommy Wonder.
Now this is not in any way expressing dismay for other very good routines including Dick Biow's which is both original and rarely mentioned.
Some shine with a great presentation like Ricky Jay's, Dai Vernon's or John Mendoza's; some with utter impossibilities like Paul Gertner's

It's like a macaroons: if we like them, why should we be restricted to only one flavor when they are really good ones?

I forgot to mention my deep pleasure in watching Michael Vincent performing the C&Bs.

Paul Gertner, Shawn Farquhar and Vanni Bossi are the three best that I've seen.

Kent's routine is great. I'm not sure if Kent has posted a different version of the video since, but there is still a version up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEYmGnK4K......oIDT-lzw

I think the performance does lack some polish in that video, but the routine is still amazing. If there is a more recent/polished performance video, I'd love to see that. I'm not sure whether Kent is still selling his routine. It needs some extra hardware and _lots_ of practice :>

The routine is fine. The performer lacks polish. If you'd like to see a more current version there's some video here:

Kent,
That performance kicked so much (can I say that here?) butt! It seemed a lot more natural to me. I agree with Lawrence O. The best.

Not quite "cups" and balls, but definitely unusual.

Motown,

I'm with you on this one. I agree that Kent's video is by no means in the same league as the work of Gertner or Farquhar. I've not seen the Bossi routine. I'll bet it rocks.

We all have our own favorites, for our own reasons. I'm particularly fond of:

The Vernon Routine, especially when done by Bob White or Jared Kopf.
Tommy Wonder's routine.
Ricky Jay's presentation is hard to beat.

Have a great day,

Kent

If you lack polish, I think Johnny Thompson would be glad to teach you a few words and phrases. Smile
