This is a different type of bucket list.
How many of you have a bucket full of locks that you've ripped apart? Along with dozens of different types of chains, ropes and hinges? Now, if all the amatures will sit down... How many have ripped apart enough locks to fill a barrel, two barrels? OK for real... How many have enough to fill the trunk of their car and can pick almost any pin trumbler, warded or double sided wafer lock without looking & untie ropes behind their backs and can unlock twenty different types (or more) of different cuffs without using keys? ----- Why do I want to know this?I just want to know if I wasted my youth, or not.

This reminds me of some first apprentice excersizes for blacksmithing. Hammer control: hammer 100 nails into a block of wood. Draw taper: forge taper lengths from 1/2" to 3" in 1/2" bar 6 foot long until parent stock is all used up. Hooks: use taper points made in last excersize, forge 100 S hooks. Do this for a few months, maybe a year. Maybe 5 years later we'll move to journeyman excersizes. The goal is the same.... fill a barrell with your work. Many professional commercial artists consider themselves truly professional when "you can use your rejection letters to paper all the walls in your studio".

First two years of my apprenticeship, I wasn't allowed to use a key machine. All done by file, I swore a lot. About eight year ago, I had a chance meeting with the Hungarian Master Locksmith who taught me, gave me the opportunity to thank him. If only I did that back then.

Similar discipline required in martial arts, emphasis on basics and repetition on simple tasks to awaken higher conciousness.
And I could certainly fill a trunk with coins that I have used to vanish (of course I lose them occasionally). Don't know how much I've spent on silver in my life, but it's a lot.

Ian, I loved hearing about you had the chance to finally thank your master. It kinda moved me. I had always regretted not telling my dad how I felt about him, a few years later we were talking and I said dad I need to tell you something, he said what? I stammered and sheepishly said Dad, you do know I love you? He smiled and said yes,,He died too soon after....Like you, I wished I had told him much earlier.
I guess your story brought that feeling up, so yeah, Im glad to hear you had a chance to say that to him.

Is anyone here aware of trolls? News to me, but apparently there are "troll" forums. The only way to be a member of a troll forum is to prove yourself by going to any other forum and stirring up trouble. Forum content and thread discussions don't matter, as long as the user causes major problems with the forum regulars. I also understand extra points are issued if threads become locked or members get banned. At my blacksmithing forum we have a saying... "Don't feed the trolls". As tempting as it may be to engage, react and respond to these troublemakers, ignoring them is the only way.
