Danny we understand your concerns, and everyone elses at this point, so we've taken the necessary steps to shoot an additional video (as mentioned in our above post) that will go out to all customers that have purchased the effect and will purchase it going forward. The video is 15 minutes long and goes over every detail so that nobody feels we are misleading them.
Our tech team said the e-mail to all customers to let them know the video has been added to their account should go out in the next day or so. Danny we are listening and most definitely do give a crap. We're sorry that our chance to fix this problem hasn't been done quick enough for you. Thanks for the feedback! MP |

I just watched the extra download and it's really good. The extra teaching is done really well and in great detail. The additional over-the-shoulder view of the main effect being performed at speed was for me particularly useful and I'll be watching that a few times as I practise. Overall this extra download adds quite a bit of value to the product and now makes it a solid buy for what you are getting. If you like the effect and don't know how it's done, then this is a no-brainer. And once you know what can be done with Martin Nash's Infinity, you're sure to also want to get hold of his DVD; so I think it was probably the right choice to teach what you did here as long as it's deemed ok by those in the know and Mr. Nash gets the credit he deserves. Thanks Mark and Luke for responding to people's concerns.

Fin, I sincerely care about what we're doing so it's nice to see what we're trying to do is noticed. It's not easy to please everyone but we're certainly going to try our best to keep people happy with what we have to offer.
I hope you get a lot of use out of Traction. Have a great weekend! luke |

With this added tutorial could you give me a skill level. 1 to 5?

Pegasus, it depends a lot on how difficult you find the moves to learn. I have found an in depth study of Kostya's "Roadrunner" dvd's to be invaluable, and I don't think I will be good enough at the main move required for Traction until I have put in some serious practise. I can't put a number on it as everyone has different ideas of how difficult certain moves are. I guess it's not that any of the moves needed for Traction are really difficult, but you will have to practise a fair amount before it looks as smooth and as magical as it deserves.

Hi
People seem to be worried about the use of the roadrunner in this effect and I don’t understand why? This move does not need to be performed perfect, if this effect/move is being performed for more than one spectator it makes this even easier to perform as you can do the move whilst moving around to show the positions of the cards in question, also the sloppier this looks the better as it will appear that really nothing has happened.  What I'm trying to put across is don’t be put off effects because of a certain move, many sleights people seem to have this impression that it has to be done perfect, when in reality is doesn’t, by purely using your environment and directing your spectators attention, anything can be accomplished no matter what your skill level.  Best  R  |

I couldn't have said it better myself Rus! The natural misdirection built in when you perform routines (or moves) like this allows for you to do things on the offbeat or even as you are pointing out other things such as seen in the Traction routine...locating the cards they named.
It's nice to hear people are enjoying the add-on video that Mark shot. It's definitely what we'll continue to do moving forward even with additional thoughts and ideas. We want to show that there's value in a product even once you have purchased it. Have a great week guys! luke |

I agree with you Rus. Pegasus, I don't think anyone should be put off this because of any of the moves. I was just trying to help people work out how tough they may or may not find this and that's something that changes a lot depending on the person. My case is probably quite different to most because I am most often performing for my customers while we are sat in the Taxi I drive for a living, which as you can imagine is VERY close-up and personal. As I'm in the UK they are looking over my left shoulder rendering many every-day sleights impractical, plus there is obviously limited space for misdirection. It's mainly for this reason that for this particular routine I will be ensuring my roadrunner is up to scratch so it can be burned. In a walk around situation I totally agree there is plenty of room for misdirection so mastery of the roadrunner would not be needed, but it's not the easiest move for a beginner to pick up, and will still require a little practise; that's what I was getting at. It's certainly nothing to be "worried" about; I just think that if a beginner buys this and thinks they will pick it up and perform it smoothly straight away, they may have an unpleasant surprise. To do the Roadrunner competently, even with misdirection to help, does require a bit of practise but its certainly nothing that should put anyone off. It is a move that can be used for so many things that the sooner it's learnt the better for your card magic as a whole.

Fin, I'm impressed you can do any card effects whilst driving. That's a trick in itself.

One thing I will say about those who can't perform the roadrunner well, or at all, you DON'T have to ask your spectator to choose a 4 of a kind, you can juts have the cards prepared in position(any 4ofakind) and perform as so. then still do the kicker and still have a pretty bad ass trick,
just a thought Mark |

Good idea. Or you could use the same deck to force a card, which would be the chosen 4 of a kind to locate. How difficult is the flicking phase? That looks very cool.

I think having the name any suit is appealing, but not needed. What they'll actually remember and be blown away by is Mark Calabrese's wonderful change at the end. Cutting to let's say the 4 jacks, shows skill. Changing them to aces is magic.
Anyone performing this, try having the cut to cards ( let's say the jacks ) placed in their hand to "hold" and then make the change. |

Great suggestions there Zombie! Things that happen in the spectator's hands always seem to add an extra punch to the effect.

In this specific routine, the cull has to be perfect. Why ? Because, here the magician talks about nines, he spreads the deck under the eyes of the spectator (in the video, the spectator clearly search nines with the magician, he said something like "oh yeah, I see one"), so the move has to be very very good. If you borrow a deck, you cull aces and you do something. I agree with you, the cull become an easy beginner move... BUT here, all the focus is about nines, the spectator isn't stupid. A little question : Pit Hartling is credited for the last revelation ? |

On 2012-11-13 11:24, LoïcJ. wrote: loicj: as the creator of the effect I can tell you this, your concerns about kostya's move stems from your possible lack of experience in performing the effect for an audience , the roadrunner cull is not something that a spectator should see even if they are burning the deck. I have seen kostya do the move under fire and completely fool magicians and lay people alike culling up to 26 cards, so 8 cards should not be a problem. a performer would do the neccesary work while showing the deck or talking about the trick. you have to understand the psychology about the cull if you are going to successfully do the cull, when a specator searches with you , they are looking for the cards with you, and not necessarily looking at each card after they find it. they see it,and go and look for the next one, which is the misdirection necessary to cull it. if you are afraid or not ready to cull 8 cards, then by all means, take 4 aces and place them where they need to be and then cull only 4. or don't cull any at all and just cut a pre determined 4 of a kind, as I speak about in a previous post. my best advice with any effect is, do the effect for a trusted friend or family member and do the effect to completion, then ask the spectator what they thought or saw or think they saw during the effect, and repair any problems that you may think need fixing. this is something I have done with all my magic because I need the real world perspective with my material. this effect is accomplishable, with little to no worries about getting caught. if you have any questions about the effect , pm me and I will be happy to talk to you about anything you need. and yes, pit hartling is credited in full for his work for the final revelation, as is john carney,ed marlo, martin nash, and everyone else that has inspired me to do this effect cheers, mark |
