Has anyone seen the commercials advertising the Box Set of the Siegfried and Roy shows. More importantly has anyone ordered them? Just curious if they were legit. I thought these were only available at the Mirage Hotel. Anyone know if these are good tapes to own? Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think that since now the show has been officially closed they are trying to clear stocks through tv commercials.

As I understand it the release of this set was planned long before the mishap. It is a general release of their IMAX film "The Magic Box" and a couple of their Television specials.

It was mentioned above that their show was closed...obviously it is closed for right now but will it be closed forever? Will Sigfried continue to perform?....does anyone know what will happen?

There's really no way to be sure. Siegfried has said that he will not perform without Roy. The fate of the show at the Mirage is unknown. Siegfried said that we have not heard the last of Siegfried and Roy. In what form that is we do not know and can't be sure for a long time. Right now the biggest concern is getting Roy healthy.

I have the set and Siegfried was kind enough to send me few postcards as well.
The tapes are lengthy and of a very high calibre. 3 volumes in two dvds. I had never seen the IMAX Film before and this is why procured them. You wil enjoy the tales they tell. This is legitimate! |

Thanks. How did you purchase them? Did you get them from the TV commercials that have been airing recently? Or did you get them from somewhere else? Just curious the best place to order them from? Thanks!

Well, for those of you who care, I found the S&G Animated Cartoon VHS at a local dollar store. Man, that was a well-spent dollar!

LOL...I acutally bought that cartoon off of Amazon mistaking it for an actual special of theirs. I quickly returned it. Maybe I should have kept it
Wow, Are they really that hard to find now? I see where the collection is selling for over $80.00. They are selling on the TV for $40.00. Does this mean they are already out of them? Does anyone know if the Mirage still has this on sale? I'll be in Vegas next month, and would rather pick them up there at regular cost instead of spending double on the internet. Anyone know? Thanks.

I guess those dvds that are being sold there are targeted more at people who are not from the US, like me. I find ebay a blessing cos I can get what I can't if I will to look elsewhere.
Hope you will have better luck getting them at the original price from the Mirage store.

Here is what they used to sell for
39.98 Two DVD's Three Volumes 13.90 Shipping and Handling It includes this on them Volume 1 An amazing specatcle of magical moments from their show in Las Vegas Volume 2 A historical look at the path each of them took in order to make it to the top Volume 3 The compelling life story as told through the eyes of two young boys (Actors). They deliberately sneak into the backstage area and wonder what is "The Magic Box" as it sits near the dragon centre stage. The visuals on the cityscapes and magic effects are worth the price of the entire set. Each volume is approximately one-hour long. The camera work and editing are of superior quality. Since the volumes were once sold separately some of the facts and or stories are retold in each of them. This is my only gripe about the set. You will get a sneak peek into the luxurious home of S&R but, not too much...Only the facia and outside grounds. Well worth the search in my opinion.~rr |

In answer to Briansmagic --
It's difficult to believe Siegfried and/or Roy will ever perform again. Siegfried has said he won't perform without Roy. Roy's injuries are quite serious and probably require long recuperation. It may be doubtful that he will ever recover fully enough for an arduous stage show. That said, nothing would please me (and millions of fans) more than to see a reunion performance someday. Additionally, what would Siegfried do, alone? He isn't David Copperfield. The S&R show, as brilliant as it was when first produced, is little changed from the day it opened at the Mirage (I was there, and have seen it four times since). There are certainly no mind-boggling innovations such as DC and his team regularly produce for their touring shows and CBS specials. Second, Siegfried was not the one with the affinity for the animals. That was all Roy. So, especially in light of the increasing calls for legal restrictions on the use of wild animals in stage shows, Siegfried simply hasn't the training or experience to work with the "trademarks" of S&R -- those magnificent cats. Without them, he's stuck competing with David Copperfield, Lance Burton, the Pendragons, etc., in the realm of illusions. He's certainly not known for his close-up work. Third, what's his motivation? He doesn't need the money. His reputation is already made (along with Roy's) and will outlive him anyway. S&R have been on top for so many decades that, what's Siegfried going to do: start all over, at his age, on a lower rung? Doubtful. He would have to invest or find backers to pay a team of illusion and production experts to produce an entirely new show unlike anybody else's. The show would have to equal or surpass Copperfield, for instance. Plus, a suitable venue (like the S&R Theatre at the Mirage) would have to be booked or built. None of this is meant to be disrespectful of what S&R achieved. Just some practical points. Siegfried is actually in a wonderful position to raise money (as he's already doing) for various causes, including AIDS (as he just did in his Mirage theatre) and other health-care issues, environmental and animal-rights issues. He can be tremendously helpful in raising millions and millions for research into those issues, still maintain his name and historic reputation, without risking it all by attempting to "go it alone" without those factors most identified with S&R -- namely, Roy and the animals. Siegfried rightly has tremendous care and love for Roy and all they achieved together. I imagine he'll follow the ancient showbiz maxim, "Always leave 'em wanting more," and bow out under this accidental tragedy and devote his life to improving others' lives and the lives of animals and our planet. Just my two cents' worth. |

I got them, too. Here's what you get:
2 DVDs, the first one has two programs on it, the second has one. DVD #1: Has their TV special from about ten years ago, I remember when this was on. Also has what was on the souvenir tape you could buy at the Mirage. DVD #2: Has "The Magic Box" IMAX film on it. Since these are three different shows about basically the same thing, there's some repetition. The quality of transfer to the DVD gets better as you go from the old material to the newer material. In other words, the TV special from years ago looks good, but to my eyes (on my big-screen TV) it looks like it was taken off a high-quality videotape. The transfer of the souvenir tape is better, but still looks like it came from video originally. The Magic Box, on the other hand, looks like any movie you see on DVD these days...absolutely crisp and sharp on a big-screen TV. It's very impressive, I wish I'd seen it in IMAX. The first two shows were done for video, and are high quality (for video), but the IMAX movie was shot like a movie and looks like it. And there are big sections of their show at the Mirage in it. Wow. The whole package is well worth it, especially if you never got to see the Mirage show. Jeff |
