Tigers are getting owned!

I NEVER expected this. San Francisco nukes the Tigers in game one and shuts down their formidable offense in game two. But, unlike football in which there is just one game to decide it all, baseball has a series and for that I am eternally grateful. Both teams want this badly as evidenced by game two's pitcher's duel and I wouldn't count the Tigers out yet. As a long suffering Pirates fan I have no personal stake in this World Series. I am rooting for Detroit because I used to live 30 minutes south and Detroit needs some love; heaven knows it's been the ugly focus of the presidential debates and it is once again rated the most dangerous city in America.
All of that said, this post season has been one for the books thus far. Every team has played with an old school hard nosed focus that has been missing from this game I love so much. I do truly love baseball but it's been a few years since it felt like I wasn't watching a bunch of multi-millionaires playing for the money. This post-season marks a return to the purity of the game and demonstrates why post-season baseball is the most intense experience in professional sports IMHO. So again, hats off also to the Nationals, Reds, Cardinals, Athletics, and Yankees. I should qualify the Yankees bit however: if Alex Rodriguez thinks that flirting with women is more important than actually playing hard for his team, then perhaps he needs to take on a new career and hang out at strip clubs and sign baseballs asking for phone numbers. I loathe the Yankees but I feel bad for Jeter and the rest of the guys who DID play hard. Detroit in seven Tom. |

Two straight shut outs! Where is this "powerhouse offense"?

Better game, but Detroit gets swept in The Series. The Giants can be very dominant when firing on all cylinders.

Congratulations to the Giants, Tom. They clearly dominated a team that fought hard all season. I loved this series because both teams were having fun in all the intensity that only post season baseball can offer.
I am a bit let down though because I do not follow any other sport, and those holy words "pitchers and catchers report" seem so far in the future. |
