I'm looking to purchase a flat shim that attracts a magnet. The size of a quarter would be ideal, but that's not a requirement. Does anyone know where I can pick up a shim? A lot of places sell magnets, but can't find a place that also sells shims. Thanks.

A very thin metal washer from your local hardware store could be glued in. be aware, the thicker the shim the less the coverage of the coin

Check Amazon.com for shim stock. You will probably have to purchase a lot more than you need though. It generally doesn’t come in small quantities.

Back in the dark ages we broke up razor blades with two pliers -- steal one from your scraper
also, those blades in retractable/folding cutters might work -- a bit thicker. Some large hose clamps could be cut in sections and will fit in a quarter.

All that stuff seems too thick. Shim stock is 2 or 3 THOUSANDTHS of an inch thick, your thinnest washer is probably thicker than a quarter. J-Mac is right. You can get a whole roll for under 10 dollars, of any size you want on Amazon.

If all you need is a thin round or square shim, you could contact Chuck Leach. He doesn't list any on his website (Chazpro) but I know he has them and is really nice to deal with.
