Been thinking about this thread a lot recently, and Kondini's post about rough playing better than smooth.
I think this theory can be applied to pretty much anything too. Take my recent line of work as Santa. To most he is a jolly fat bloke who brings toys to nice children. This was how I played it for most of last year. It went ok, but the character came across very flat and 2D. So I changed it up a bit. Made him cheekier and roughened up his smooth edges. The kids love it. This year I've done this again only more so, and I've had great remarks from both kids and parents. Then I discover the extreme example of this with William Joyce's character North from Rise of the Guardians. He's Santa, but seriously badass!! The dude wields swords for crying out loud. If a roughed up Santa works, despite everything you would first think, then it will definitely work for an EA...

On the FC front next year you could always bring back the 'traditional' green costume (although it was white or black, blue or green, yellow or brown depending which picture you use from the 1900's).
Heck, go one further and turn up in Pepsi colours... that'll rough things up. Then again the kids might have an issue with that. There was a report a few years back where a School brought in the green costume and the kids didn't like it. |

The clue's in the name. If you're an EA in the UK then you're pretty much there.
If you're not an EA or not from/in the UK then probably not worth wasting your time... We have a few non-UK members, very few, but no non-EA members to my knowledge. Weasel is your first point of contact... So good luck with that.. Hahaha!!!!!

Ros re your findings rough vs smooth. Looked out a few bits I was given by Yul Brynner when he played the Palladium with McKenna. He started out in the Circus world and used the rough to get where he ended up. His words and looks (Only man I met who had peach coloured skin) Were given in manuscript to Jeremy Beadle who passed them onto me.
Funny how all this flows and locks together,,,all we should do is reflect on the past to go forward into the future. Another example which comes to mind was Alan Burford who had ties with Houdini, Selbit and Levante and when he came back to retire from Aus to the UK he too even at this late age got involved in the IBM (When Tommy Rowe was Presidant) Was Chairman of WAM (Wilts Associated Magicians) And performed with Peter Westlake & myself on several benefit shows in the Swindon area (Peter was another sharpe witted roughy). So it all links up and holds substance. Ken Have a good rest now Ros and beware the Saville investigation into Father Christmases handling charges !!!!! |

I live in Westbury now and David McCance who runs Imperial Charities here originated from Leeds and was JS driver for many years. Despite being hassled by our local press he denies knowing anything about the goings on but we all view him in a different light (which is wrong) such is judgement by the company you keep. Terry Wogan is also in the frame!!!! Who next ?

Everyone at the BBC, I mean its not like its a massive corporation ..... Oh wait it is! I honestly think that anyone who worked for the BBC during the time period that these complaints relate to will be talked to ..... Even if they only passed JS in the elevator on the third floor...... It's not a good time tobe a manager at the BBC if its a program JS worked on (which according to my memory ....... Was every show on the BBC he was always popping up in my front room ..... On the TV ...stop making up your own jokes....thanks Gazzo).

There was a whole Library full of Tapes,Videos,Manuscripts and Books upstairs via the spiral staircase in Beadles home and cant think of any collection so vast. He had dried devil fish and artifacts hanging on the walls and most of the books were signed first editions. We were lucky enough to spend many happy hours in his company and Library but what ever happened to it all after his death God knows.
To think we became friends through an Abracadabra advert is amazing and the private work it gave me lasted over a twenty year period with connections and work from Arthur Askey to The Queen,,,happy days, never to be repeated. Also a secret well kept was that JB was in partnership with Cottle and were the brains and finance behind the Circus of Horrors,,,not many peeps knew that,,,,now you all do hahaha. Plus his kitchen had the biggest TV screen fixed to the wall I had ever seen and his very beutiful wife made fantastic coffee,,,what else could a man wish for!! This time of year I tend to reflect and really Ive not had a bad life at all. Ken |

Have a good final few gigs as a Professional EA, Ken! I know you will pull out all the stops as normal.
sounds like a brilliant opportunity for a REAL challenge from other "EAs" ...... A chance to prove one as an EA and a man ........ Let me know if you get any! |
