I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. It's really nice to see that, when people talk about 'the magic community', the 'community' aspect really does exist!
After A LOT of to and fro-ing by email, I'm very pleased to announce that 'Inside Magic' have done the right thing. All future ad copy for the 'Sucker Peep' effect will feature reference to my name and original creation and a small token compensation has also been agreed. All said, I'd like to applaud 'Inside Magic' for their (eventual!) good form and announce that I withdraw my complaint over the 'Sucker Peep' DVD. I also hope that this episode will encourage a more stringent approach in the admittedly vague area of 'intellectual property rights' by them in the future. "In academia, crediting is so important because there is so little to lose!" I can't remember who said it right now but very fitting in this case I think. All the best, Dave.

What an absolutely ignorant thing to say. Do you have a monitor Roger? It was made in Taiwan. How about a keyboard? Yup, Taiwan. IPhone? China.
Ripoffs in magic happen ALL OVER THE WORLD. Even jolly old England. This is nothing new. Read "The silence of chun long soo" to see how much ripping off went on in "The good old days". I mean, IF you read anything other than the magic Café. James Quote: On 2012-10-30 13:38, Roger Kelly wrote:

Oh I WISH I had seen this thread prior to purchasing Sucker Peep. I have purchased a lot of magic of the years and this is definitely one of the most disappointing things I've ever bought.
I've just watched Dave Forest's routine and his brilliant and visual move of sliding the card out never happens in Sucker Peep. Dave's video shows a full performance and all the moves are motivated. Sucker Peep on the other hand (in my opinion) is a cobbled together, clunky routine. Once the 'sucker' move has been shown to the spectators they are then asked to "make sure the hole is real"...why? If your intention is to show that you've peeked through a hole, why would you then ask people to verify that the hole was real...unless you want to telegraph that something is about to happen to the hole. What follows this 'hole verification' procedure is that the cards are placed BACK into the box (even though you're going to immediately repeat the trick) and then the 'sneaky' move is done, at the WORST possible moment with the most flimsy motivation. [Note: you could devise your own s*****, but the fact that you need to shows that this routine is not well thought out]. The cards are then taken out of the box again, then put back into the box and then taken out again. It's horrible. I'm in Australia and so the price of this one-trick DVD (with NO gaff included) was $50.00. Man, do I feel ripped off right about now. I'd put it in the for sale section but really I don't want to stick somebody else with it. I think the term 'Sucker Peep' refers to the edited 'peep' your given in the demo video and the 'sucker' part refers to me for having bought it. I think I'll just use this DVD as a coaster. |

Due to the controversy, I will no longer offer sucker peep to my customers. I am removing it from my site today.

Pretty rough stuff in this thread. All I will add is my unbiased honest opinion. Sucker Peep isn't something that burned my eye lashes off what so ever. It is an interesting effect to say the least. I just saw Pack of Lies by Mr. Forrest, and hands down it is FAR stronger than Sucker Peep. Even the guys reviewed Sucker Peep on WPR and weren't really feeling it. Its okay, but I would take Pack of Lies over Sucker Peep any day. Even if they are the same exact effect down to the hole in the box.
Posting ever so slightly.

Curious about how the magic publishing world works. Is it common to publish stuff for release only for Singapore in English?
