Mr. Tango almost exclusively shows and uses the Top-Split that uses the thumb as the levering agent. The alternative methods described in "T.U.C. Appreciation" can be easier with the Quarter TUC.
My arthritis brought me to the TUC in the first place and I can use all of the TUC sizes. Yes, the larger ones are easier in some moves, but the effects with Quarters are worth the effort. (especially those in the spectator's hand) Some of these are not in the book, but available from me when you are "practiced." Don't have the book? Please contact me for some trade options ;-)

I do my own coin and card assembly at every close up show I do. And when I performed in restaurants I did it at every table. I also stand when I perform and do not sit. I have never had a problem with doing a coin assembly at even the large banquit tables.
Cheers!

I find that a few (3-5) stacked cloth napkins will suffice in a pinch for coin work, and some matrixes, depending on the method. You can always get them from the service station, and use the same ones all night. I save it for when people are all done and there is room on the table. I'll sometimes tell a kid at the table to come get me when the meal is done so I know I have room to lay everything out, if it's a busy night. Dean Dill has a nice matrix effect that can be done with just one cloth napkin that looks great, with no cards...just turning the corners over onto the coins in each corner. It's on Extreme Dean Vol. 1, "The Dinner Napkin #2". Amazing trick.

I try to avoid tricks that involve putting things on the table, I use the spectator's hands as much as is convenient. The last restaraunt I worked got the appetizers to the table pretty quick so I didn't have a whole lot of time for involved magic tricks.

I use a circular mat with a had bottom that takes the same space as a small plate would.

I try to keep most of my effects off the table and high enough that the customers aren't having to look around glassware to see the performance. That being said, I still like to occasionally end with a mini chop cup routine. The space I need on the table is no bigger than a small square bar napkin. Even so, if there are lots of plates and glasses in the way, it's a no go.

Me I personally use alan rorrison's matrix which can be done in the hands it requires a few gimmicks but nothing to bad. and the gimmicks hide in plain sight so no one will notice. it's on his download odds and ends only 15 bucks and you get four killer effects the are done with normal objects. on it is his in the spectators hands matrix, metalmorphisis, the key: barrowed key vanishes and ends up on shoelace, and be safe.
