Got to say - - - I AM A FAN, there is enough coinwork on the Metal 1,2,3 series and AN Extension Of Me set to keep me busy for a long long time. Eric is an inspireing teacher and ellusionist is a pretty good site for my needs, the Master decks are above par in my opinion and I chose also to go all in with the white ghost theme regular, gaffs, mini deck... I really like the looks and feel of the artifact coins. I have 1 of each then I ordered 3 more copper dollar size to make a set. (a couple gaffs from Roy Kueppers in the future)I have been doing magic for many years (15+) and I would recomend these coins and many other items from the site to beginners. there is really some good stuff...NO---Powerful Stuff on that site. Go there... You cant go wrong with them. http://www.ellusionist.com/
Posted: Oct 30, 2012 2:18am Also, If you want to take it slow and just learn a few effects at a time some gaffed, some not, for the price you cant beat http://www.vinnymarini.com/download/ scroll down to Marion Boykin ( Mb217 ) on the board, his magic and routines are powerful and well taught Full routines and slights to go with them. Video and PDF included for instruction. Priced low in my opinion but I will continue to fill my repetuar with his stuff because its good, well taught and he will personally help you through a rough spot via PM if you need him... That my magic friends is service...And a number of other Quality Magicians you can dowload routines from on the same site, check it out......

I agree that Vinny’s site is an incredible site to learn some top quality magic. Vinny has personally sent me some videos to help learn his crimp palm. They are all extremely nice people and deserve our support.

If anyone here doesn't have Metal 1, 2, and 3 as well of Extension of Me by Eric Jones by all means these are very, very good resources for gaffed coin magic.
I have been watching my copies for a few years now and still find new things. Favorites: flash coins relit, oxyclean, impossible coins across. Also peregrination for non-gaffed coins.... |

Having not purchased coin work DVDs since Roth's came out in VHS, all I've got to say is WOW. Both Eric's and Marion's work!!

I truly appreciate being spoken of in this string and that people enjoy my work is to have succeeded. I have just as much fun sharing with those that appreciate good coin magic when they see it, whether its from the top shelf or perhaps sometimes somewhere near by it. I will say here that you cannot go wrong with anything from Eric Jones, his work is clean, smart and always very magical. His Metal DVDs are great updates on coin magic basics and even some advanced work and thinking. And that he has been a member of La Famiglia himself early on, is still a real piece of pride.
As to Vinny's La Famiglia website, I agree that there is a whole lot of good magic there as well from a master wizard in Vinny, a guy that can handle cards and closeup as well as coins, and can rock & roll with the best of them, any genre bar none. That he allows bums like me and some fine others to hang around his shop is both a privilege and and an honor. Lots of good magic and history there indeed. As a matter of fact and crossing of two old roads again, Ellusionists is now featuring a new offering from Eric, where he is featuring a piece of "awesome" magic in his "Collective EP" package from Vinny. Anyway, thanks again guys for all the kind words here and fine recognition. -Mb

Yah I just got Metal 1 and I love it. It has sparked my interest into coin magic again. I freaked out my wife last night when I made a coin vanish. This morning I watched some of MB's vidoes and I was very impressed. MB and Eric are my two new heros.

Not wanting to start a new thread -- I am having trouble with flash coins relit. (or revisited on metal)
When I light my flash paper it either burns way too fast or even worse has a "jet" effect and flies around the room a bit, avoiding my hand. Has anyone else tried this? Thanks in advance... |

Flash paper has never behaved for me the way I expect it to behave. The problem is most likely because I don’t use it very often, and as it gets older its properties seem to deteriorate a bit. Then again I just read somewhere that flash paper should always be stored in a paper envelope, not in a plastic bag. The plastic bags are just for shipping it seems. That might be why it acts up when I light it.
The paper I have now is some that I recently found that was purchased a few years ago and it was stored in the plastic bag it came in. When I light it now it burns real fast and bigger and brighter than it did when new. Scared the heck out of me last week after I first found it! I'm going to buy some new and try to use it right away. See if that helps. Jim |

To some extent the rate of burn can be controlled by how tightly you wad the paper.

It's a funny situation -- I can't handle the coins as well as Eric, and I can't even throw little balls of flash paper as well either!
Still experimenting. Also looking at Impossible Coins Across -- this is one of the best uses of a fli**er I have seen. |

I've always had issues with flash paper. Then I found "Flash Cotton"! Then, I searched and searched, and finally found an igniter that works with Flash Cotton! See below. No more problems!

By the way, the commercial site that Todd Lassen now has, really has a bunch of great crafted coins. Perfect for someone starting out, who does not want to put out the big bucks, but still wants quality!

A few years ago, I drove 4 hours to Virginia Beach to see an Eric Jones lecture, mainly because I was so blown away by his young punk YouTube videos. He didn't have any tutorial DVDs out then, but he did have some great magazine articles and a couple of downloads. Anyway, that lecture was inspirational - still have about sixteen pages of notes in my moleskin pad. The magic was phenomenal (much of what now appears on the Extension of Me DVD set), as were his aura of confident (not cocky) assurance, enthusiasm and infectious love for the art. His magic is always about the effect, period. If a gaff is the best way to go, that's what he does. But he transcends the gaff, and uses it to create undeniable magic. Then again, if he needs to master a knucklebuster such as Raise Riser for another effect - well, no problem. In short, Eric's an awesome all-around magician, and I'm really glad he's chosen to share his personal insights and discoveries.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

OK some progress on flash coins relit. Listening a bit more closely, Eric actually says to make a pea sized ball with a tail and you should light the tail. This works much better. If you just make a ball it kinda explodes. Also we have a rainy day out here in the bay, and I notice a difference with the humidity.

Eric's stuff is fantastic and I learned things that I don't remember seeing in other DVD's but if you didn't know The New York Coin Symposium hass put their entire coin collection on sale over $100 cheaper than I can get them from my discount dealer so I scoffed the entire set up, now just waiting for it to arrive...
Fantastic price.. Bill |
