If you are often accused of being negative, maybe you should phrase things differently. Instead of "you are planning on entertaining at a bar crawl? Good luck." Perhaps, something like, ""you are planning on entertaining at a bar crawl? I see some issues arising with that idea, but I wish you all the best!" Lol.

Kameron I spent most of my life in a small town and had to get good at working a variety of different venues. I wanted to turn pro (which I have been the past 20 years) and, in a limited market, had to "create" different avenues of performing. One of these was bar gigs. I simply approached the bar owner and said that I would provide 3 hours of entertainment for him at $100/hour. The 3 hours would usually be structured as an hour of table hopping, then a 45 min. - 1 hour stand-up show and then another hour of table-hopping. The usual hours for me were 9pm- midnight. I would provide a master copy of a "poster" for them to put up so that they could promote the show usually starting 2-3 weeks out. It was a novel concept because most of the places where this would be appropriate (in my market) had single and duo guitar players, ect. which are all musical entertainment. The main key is how to structure the poster so that it makes people want to come and have fun. Working bars CAN be trying at times, but I had no real problem with it. That may be due to fact that I used to work comedy clubs starting in the mid-80's which are pretty much comedy shows in bars. You have to have a somewhat harder edge in your persona in dealing with some folks (depending on the particular bar)but magic is magic as long as you entertain 'em. I still do these where I live now but they're a little more upscale venues.

Kameron, reading your original post, you basically would be paid to hang out with the party, and do magic for them. Almost like you were a regular friend and not a paid entertainer.
It certainly seems original, but I can't really picture it working. I think getting the marketing message across would be very tough, and I think the actual sale of the idea would be tough, and in reality I can't see you getting too many calls for this. I think your efforts would be better served another way (bar gig, another resturant gig, host a stand up night-this could appeal to the people you thought may be interested in your original concept), offer a class or workshop on bar bets) good luck sb |

You should also look into public liability insurance....spending a night out entertaining a few drunks can go bad quickly, you wanna make sure you're covered...like what tricks can you do or can't do. I.e. Fire tricks however small may not be covered under insurance....or if you're driving the party around, what happens if there's an accident? All worth checking out before you have a crack at it mate....sounds like fun though.

Needless to say, he is a really strong close up performer. |

$400 for the first hour and $300 every hour after that? You'd only have to work a couple nights a week:)

Being a guest automaticallybreaks the ice for you. When I did private parties it was the way I worked them most often.

I know the idea is weird and has issues, but what doesn't? I was trying to get out of the rut of same old same old. Im trying to look at things differently so I can market myself to different demographics that I don't yet reach.
