I recently acquired The Prodigal. There was a lot of buzz about this and I wanted to let everyone know - that it lives up to the hype. The PDF is a strategy guide for conquering the branching anagram. The "super hero" anagram alone is worth the price but ir is the "thinking + strategy" of the most effective way to use B.A.'s and disguise its use, that makes this PDF so darned good. Thanks Altas - great stuff and job well done.

By the way, I forgot to mention THIS tool that goes hand in hand with The Prodigal and constructing branching anagrams:
http://www.atlasmentalism.com/AnagramCatalog.html It looks outstanding. I have not truthfully had a chance to play around with it yet, but think of the possibilities it opens up. Ben

I just wanted to take a moment and thank anyone whose vote helped me to win (along with Jon Thompson and Paul Voodini) the TMUK 2012 Allen Award for Best Writer. As I have only released 'The Prodigal' this year, I am sure that honor was in no small part due to the very positive manner in which my book was received by all of you here.
I appreciate your support and, in light of such a positive reception, plan to release a number of other items in the year to come. Again, a big 'Thank You' to everyone! Best, Atlas |

I just wanted to take a moment and announce that the next five people to purchase 'The Prodigal' will also receive my work 'The Real Thing' for free. So far, 'The Real Thing' has only been released in Liber Mentis.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with 'The Real Thing', I've included some ad copy below: An astonishing impromptu routine! Any time you are asked to perform a feat of mind reading, all you need is a pen and something to write on. On five (or more) different pieces of paper (business cards work well) you write a unique sentence, folding each card as you finish. The participant takes all five pieces of paper, and while you turn around (or leave the room), opens one and reads it. Once this is done, the Mentalist has a short chat with the spectator, and then tells them the sentence they were thinking of. The papers stay in the participant's possession the entire time. 'The Real Thing' includes both a Lie Detector type routine and a straight-forward Mind Reading routine. No peeking, no confederates, no dirty work - Just REAL psychological Mentalism. What do other Mentalists think? "At last a routine where you really are doing what you claim! This is a fantastic concept that Atlas has expanded greatly. It has the feeling of real mentalism because it IS real mentalism." - Marc Paul "Page six of your manuscript is worth whatever you end up charging for it." - Dave Arch "I really enjoyed 'The Real Thing'...The core of the effect uses pure psychology which is just the ticket. The way in which this has been used to create a nice little lie-detector routine is very clever indeed." - Derek Heron "Rather than a physical peek, your method is kinda like a mental peek!" - Seamus Maguire "I must say I really enjoyed reading 'The Real Thing'. If nothing else, it has gotten me thinking and that's when I know I'm taken by an idea." - Nique Tan "Thank you for making my copy of 'Naked Mentalism' relevant again!" - Aaron Alexander "Atlas has open up a world of possibilities here. Using this knowledge you can play mind detective and catch your criminal every time. Very sneaky stuff. Excellent." - Greg Arce "When I first released Naked Mentalism back in 2007, I hoped that others would run with it and create simple, subtle, yet powerful effects that really do feel real. With 'The Real Thing', Atlas has certainly done that. It's a tour de force; intelligent, clean and yet very reliable. Lovely work." - Jon Thompson |

This sounds very interesting. I am very tempted to purchase this but I do have one question. I am not a professional performer, but a hobbyist who likes to do things randomly for friends and co workers. As a result things that can be done impromptu without unusual props and one on one is what generally works for me. There have been things I have purchased in the past that I felt were great ideas and would work well in an official performance but not with my everyday hobbyist approach.
I love mentalism and have had great success with ideas like Sean Waters' Red Handed which I thought was great. I think it's obvious this book is great but is it worth it for someone like myself to take the plunge? |

I'd say it sounds perfect for you. There are no props, just something to learn and you're ready to go anytime. There are enough variations in the book that you'll have material for a long time to come and it encourages you to understand the principle and use it to create your own routines.
I don't think you'll be disappointed. Tony

So I got it yesterday morning and spent the day working on it. This is a very versatile and straight forward tool for reading minds. Your right it is perfect for me because of how impromptu and straight forward it is. It does require a decent amount of work and it will be a while before I can cover almost any subject but I think its worth it. Let's just say I could tell you what month of the year you were thinking of now.

Tony, thanks for your kind words! They are always appreciated.
Brad - I am pleased that you enjoyed this. Watch out over the next week or two, as I will be releasing something else that meets your standards for mentalism that is "impromptu and without unusual props". Best, Atlas |

The Prodigal is an essential for anyone serious mentalist's library wanting to FINALLY learn how to properly use one of the most misunderstood, yet unquestionably powerful techniques in mentalism. I am glad your first release has been so well received and was something that I honestly think was needed in the art at this time!

As Atlas mentioned in another post, we traded copies of our books, just to see what someone else had done with the idea.
I was pleasantly surprised at how little duplication there was. Atlas had one idea about how to handle misspellings that had just never occurred to me, I loved it. The various genres of his branching anagrams are clever and could be used to make very dramatic content. For instance, imagine your spectator is old enough that their children are grown and out of the house. Set a scenario about when their children were young and the things they loved at that age. Now do Atlas’ “Superheros” effect, telling the spectator which superhero their children loved. This would kill. “Periodic Puzzler”- a magazine test where they just think of any magazine and you tell them what it is, very personal and intimate. As well as several tests more along the lines of a more conventional magazine test. Very clever stuff, well written, and thoroughly thought out. Get it, you won’t be sorry.

I came into this one a bit late! It was in the "stack" and I finally read it. Fantastic job Atlas!
This is without a doubt the best source of info out there on the subject. Truly brilliant thinking and I am struggling to decide what/how to adopt or adapt as Prodigal is an embarassment of riches! |

Thanks very much Bill, for your good words! I got this in an email today from a purchaser named Aaron. He doesn't have an account here and asked me to share this on his behalf:
To all at the Café, The following is a review for the prodigal by Atlas. Before the review I must say that Mr. Atlas has been great to deal with both in business (easy purchasing process, prompt responses) and socially (he was even gracious enough to stay in contact and answer some questions about mentalism completely unrelated to his work.) Time for the review.... I'm not going to go through every detail of the manuscript but I will say this: It is a reflection of many hours of hard work and many years of experience actually using the methods that are offered. I think that everyone who takes their craft seriously is always searching for the perfect effect. The 'real deal.' We have all bought products only to discover the promises made to be untrue, or that they were true but the method was unrealistic, or required too much prep, or even if it did meet all these requirements after knowing further info realizing that my character would never do this, or a vast array of other factors that make these "perfect effects" imperfect. Mr. Atlas makes a very compelling case that the anagram is the this long sought after perfect effect. The 'real deal.' Nothing written, no tearing, peeks etc just pure mind reading. But wait.....Anagrams?! I know what you are thinking. Standing and guessing off letters makes the method very transparent and destroys any credibility of real mind reading. Furthermore, anagrams are inherently limited. Why can I only think of a fruit? A real mind reader could tell me anything I was thinking of, not just what fruit I am thinking of. Fear not. Mr. Atlas shows how to use the anagram in a way that you are not seen to be randomly guessing letters. Even more importantly, Atlas teaches how to give anagrams the context necessary so that they are relevant to the spectator and thus hide their limitations. Specifically, making it seem as if the spectator could really think of anything. Not only do you get the real work for using anagrams in a close-up setting but he gives an absolutely brilliant method for using anagrams in a stage presentation which completely hides the method and creates a very, very convincing piece of mind reading. Beyond all this, Mr Atlas even includes anagrams for you to use and even shows you how to create your own. And now for the negatives.... The only real problem or complaint I have with the manuscript and the method is that which Mr. Atlas says himself in the manuscript. it will take a lot of time, effort and practice to perfect the anagram in order that it can be performed in a credible way. That being said, no good thing comes easy. If you are willing to dedicate the time and effort then I would urge you to check out the prodigal. For those of us who only want the real thing, this is it. The only limitations will be your own investment into it. This really is one of those rare times when the hype is real. FINAL THOUGHTS: If you are willing to work for it, this manuscript will allow you to perform an anytime anywhere real piece of mindreading that can be done naked with no props, set up , stooges or anything else. JUST THE REAL DEAL! BUY IT! |

I'm quite pleased - In addition to all the lovely things said in this post about my first book, "The Prodigal" just received an excellent review in this month's issue of Magic Magazine.
I felt that it would be wrong of me not to thank all of you who have given me encouragement and support as I shared my ideas. I value the associations that I have made here and am sure that I have learned much more from all of you collectively than I could ever hope to share in return. Thank you all. Best, Atlas |

Hey all,
Have any of you had a chance to use Atlas's Generator? For $15 (I think) its a steal. Im not sure if I would ever get the time to mess around with different ideas if it were not for the generator. If you don't have it but you have The Prodigal, your driving with your eyes closed. that's dangerous. Thought I should mention something as it really is a time saver and helps you smash out any idea you have in minutes. Cheers, Dave. |

I don't know how I missed this - thanks for your feedback Dave, the Generator allows a lot of customization.
I know that the book is full of options, but the generator really lets you decide how they apply to the world you live in and the circles you move in. Basically, you can move from the general to the specific if you want to (without a lot of hassle). I'm glad you like it! Best, Atlas |
