I think your problem strangelittleman is that with the Cannons out of the business, there are not really a lot of options. The few there are, have already been listed. Personally, I remember Mark Cannon coming to a EA dinner I organized and bringing the home made equipment of an old time EA who had no cannons or anyone else to turn to. While his homebuilt cuffs were crude, and more shackles perhaps than cuffs, they looked great. So, as was posted elsewhere, the Home store is probably the place to be, or the leather shop etc. I would love tohave given a simple URL to the local EA Supermarket, but ther is none, and I think I am glad for that.

Thanks for that. So my next question while I run off to do some research as well - where would be a good place to start looking at how to build some of this equipment? Im guessing actual Cuffs would be almost impossible for your average DIY type person but some of the more basic items? I have some idea's but I have already tried re-inventing the wheel before...and it came out square

SLM,
If you're in Oz then you're already in the right place. Much of the Cannon's stuff was created, built by or used bits from Ian. I'd drop him a line mate. Take it easy, Ros

Firstly - thanks for the continued hijacking of a thread.
I didn't hijack the thread. Direct your comments towards Ian. He hijacked it by digging up old insults to me and re-posting them. >Secondly - Ian has not posted anything insulting - he DID re-post others comments where they comment on what they thought of your comments on >another thread, not on you...your comments. Separation there is important - I do not see a single insult aimed at you - just peoples observations of >your comments. You're flat out WRONG. Here is what Ian quoted by "all about magic": "You are a rank amateur at best." Saying "YOU are X" is an insult. Period. It is not an opinion about my position, it is a direct insult about me. Got it? "YOU are a banana." "YOU are an Idiot." "You are a bad magician." <--- These are all insults. Anytime you post something saying "YOU ARE A X" it is an insult. It was against the policy of the Café when All About Magic posted it, and it's against the policy of the Café for Ian to re-post it. Insults and personal attacks are not permitted on this forum. Are you now going to tell Ian that he shouldn't have insulted me, or just ignore it? >As for it being on a locked thread - then its still open to be used/read. No stress there, although you may be stretching things if your looking at >it as an effort to insult. I would think of it more as an effort to show WHY people may believe you talk/post a certain way, and how your posts are >perceived at times. Saying "You are X" is an insult. That's a simple fact. >Finally - I don't know Ian but I do know, people who are 'not liked' do not stay in business REGARDLESS of the quality of their products. That's a ?>pretty Aussie thing I'm guessing, but we don't buy of scumbags or support dodgy individuals. If I thought his behavior was out of line - I would ?>call him (and I'm pretty sure that he would expect it), that's just how things are done. I am not accusing Ian of anything other than violating Café policy. I am not attacking his character, only his behavior. That is the only behavior I have observed. I'm sorry your thread got hijacked, but if you allow people to insult others in your thread, your thread is going to get hijacked. That's why the Café HAS the policy that there should be no personal attacks or insults in the forums, because it hijacks threads.

Ian said:
>Is you concern >1) that you think I insulted you? >2) that the thread was LOCKED? >3) that's other have insulted you? #1. I don't "think" you insulted me. You did. You said one of your "Favorite" comments about me was the insult "You are a rank amateur at best." That is an insult. Re-posting personal attacks and endorsing them is the same as making a personal attack. #2. We got into an argument in a thread about personal attacks and insults that you directed at me and the thread was locked. Then everyone told me to let it go and move on and I did. Then, for no reason at all you re-posted insults about me, repeating the same bad behavior. The thread was locked because insults were flying and it was a violation of Café policies. Then, weeks later, you want to start the same old stuff again. You want to reopen all the old wounds and pick another fight and violate Café policy again. >To good off topic a bit, I always find it interesting that people will go on a TV show like Jerry Springer and aire their problems, FOR THE WHOLE >WORLD TO SEE. This place isn't the Dr Phil show. I would have thought Magic in the magic section, escapes in the escape section and other topics...? >....well.... phone Phil Yes, of course Ian. You sincerely don't want to turn this into a Dr. Phil show. You only want to talk about escapes and stay on topic. And to do that, your methodology is to reopen old wounds, instigate and Re-post insults about me. Because you really want to stay on topic, right? And the best way to stay on topic is to post a litany of insults about someone else. My problem isn't even you Ian. The problem is that whenever you reveal methods on a forum, post insults, violate Café policy or generally act cruel and mean to someone else, no one says a word and you think you can just do whatever you want. THAT is the problem. STOP violating Café policy, and STOP insulting me. Period.

Ok McCauley - I'll bite....only out of a morbid curiosity.
>Saying "YOU are X" is an insult. If your really think this - then sorry, but the issue lie's only with you. You ARE a rank amateur in this field - that's what a limited time on this forum has shown me. I AM a rank amateur in this field - if someone pointed it out, I would happily say 'Yeah, and, so, what' - tis the truth they do speak. I could also be accused of 'You are a genius' - tested to be one (supposedly...I think I lucked out on that one) - that's not an insult. Hell - I know PLENTY of bad magicians - and Im not afraid to point that out - and have had it said about me. You know what - that's what the person honestly feels about my magic - then its not an insult - its a statement of what they think of my MAGIC...again - unless you have a seriously damaged ego, you need to be able to handle critisim in this business. Your a rank amateur - not an insult - Your an ugly mean little dog - that might be an insult....you see the difference? I think us Aussie's have it in the bag for thick skin. My American best mate took almost a year to realise that your really only someone's mate when they start to, as we say, hang s**t on you. That, teaches the difference between an insult and a 'nothing' statement. My advice - get yourself some thicker skin, stop taking everything personally and leave well enough alone. Ian re-posting a comment - that's not the same as him SAYING something - in fact - you should be gripping about the original individuals. To me it looks like nothing more than - you have a problem with Ian. Hell - even on this thread other people have said nastier things... Side note - I have only been on this section days and already I have a not so favorable attitude towards you, and you can point fingers at who ever you want - but its your 'poor me' behavior that has mad this the case. Harden up sunshine. |

Hi Strangle T T Leman
You may be notising a pattern....... No matter what anyone posts McCauly can not move on. One minute it's I'm not insulted the next it's stop insulting me. He has a tendency to post v------e-------r---------y long posts, followed by another one or two equally long posts. Me thinks he has too much time on his hands (not this is an opinion). There seems to be a shed load of pot kettle your black going on I for one am going to stop even reading his posts ..... The are long, go no where and as some have pointed out would more than likely be best in a different section of the Café. Some would say the I'm full of ship category. McCauly -directly at you ...... I have to agree with some of the comments on here ....... Your posts come across in a way that gets my heckles up. Your phrasing, the word choice ... I don't know but I can see why others have the opinions they do. I haven't really gone on record on this but It's time to .... Your tone is annoying and you come over as being full of yourself . May be we all need to take a I te out ..... But to be honest I may just not bother .... You wouldn't miss me much ....well some would (and did on the last 2 occasions ..... And I was really great full to all that sent thoughts my way through others or directly and many of you made the carp I was going through a little better for knowing you we're thinking of my and my family .......) So I say for at least a week of non posting from me ....... Nano oo nano oo |

>If your really think this - then sorry, but the issue lie's only with you. You ARE a rank amateur in this field
The original comment wasn't from the escape section, it was from another section and it was a direct insult to me and my experience as a magician. And the original poster said as much. And the original poster and I did discuss it. And then Ian re-posted the insult again. >I think us Aussie's have it in the bag for thick skin. My American best mate took almost a year to realise that your really only someone's mate when >they start to, as we say, hang s**t on you. I don't have a problem with having a thick skin. I do have a problem with people violating Café policy all the time and being mean and cruel to others and no one seems to call him out on it. >Ian re-posting a comment - that's not the same as him SAYING something You are splitting hairs and you know it. You KNOW that Ian re-posted that stuff specifically to attack me and insult me. You know it, I know it, and everybody knows it. He's made perfectly clear that doesn't like me and is trying to insult me and try and make me look bad. There's no bones about it. >Side note - I have only been on this section days and already I have a not so favorable attitude towards you, and you can point fingers at who ever >you want - but its your 'poor me' behavior that has mad this the case. Harden up sunshine. Again, it has nothing to do with my personal feelings. It has to do with Ian purposely trying to attack me and the fact that everyone just ignores that it's against the policy of the Café. I'm not over here crying a river because Ian has hurt my feelings. I'm saying that it's not okay to be a .dick to other magicians.

Yes, let it go. Let Ian do whatever he wants, no matter how rude, insulting, if it violates the Café policy or not. Because Ian is a God and he can break all the rules, but I have to follow them. Is that it? Just let it go so that Ian can ruthlessly attack the next guy that comes along that he doesn't like. We should all let it go. We should let it go and knuckle under to whoever is the most cruel and mean to other people. That way, they will do it more.

No, I am not full of myself. You know this Dave because I've personally come to you with problems and asked for suggestions. The problem is I don't take crap from people. Not Ian, not Ken, not anyone. I contradict people. I tell them that they are wrong. And I don't like the idea of Ian trying to tear me down, or Curtis, as he tried to do, or any of the other magicians on this board that he's insulted in the past (and there have been many, look at his post history). THAT is what I'm concerned about. That when Ian treats other people like garbage, all of you clam up and refuse to correct him. Well I for one am going to correct him. Because if I don't he's going to keep doing it to other people. I let it go, ignored him and what did he do? He came right back into it again, both at me and at Curtis in another thread. And YOU know it Dave, because you posted right after Ian listed his insults at me. You KNEW he was reopening old wounds and starting the conflict again.

I make another effort to get this thread back on topic by answering this question...

I for example have no problem building a prop out of wood, paper or foambaord. Metal however is another story. I have neither the equipment nor skill to touch that kind of stuff. If you have the skill, I would start by taking apart a pair of handcuffs and building your own, so you begin to understand the fine workings of the insides. This advice comes from a total zero of a metal worker, and perhaps others can advise you, but I followed my own advice in other areas, and it worked out OK. If you don't have the skill, and really want to do it, perhaps a metal work, or locksmithing class is in your future.

Well, give me wood and I'm fantastic. I have done cabinet making in the past (apprenticeship) and have worked with lots of other materials. Metal is my bane though, I have no experience and locksmithing is a trade over here, I am yet to see a basic course for example...nor would I really be interested in apprenticing for 4 years in the area. Leave that to the pro's.
I have access to a vast array of tools and a huge work area (thanks to a warehouse a mate has) so am looking at building 'trunks' etc. Just have not seen much in the way of 'builds' for escapes...illusions - plenty, escapes...not so much lol. |

Dave you have hit all the spots, it will not stop cos certain **** always have to have the last word. Its obvious to anyone reading through these that %99.9 of us can see the thing for what it is and it has maybe one follower hahaha.
Being stupid and not getting the message all around you are giving is bury your head in the sand and look a bigger dick than maybe you really are. To endlessly post about something you know nothing about makes you in the eyes of those who do look even sillier. So maybe to do as I have done and be done with such carp is the way to go. Now lets sit back and await another multiple mooronic reply which has no sense or reason, no object or meaning, and no substance at all. As you said, must have time on there hands and a delusion of grandure but when researched is but an empty bag of wind with nothing under the belt. Ken. |
