After leaving some of my Johnson Products copper coin gaffs (involving 20 Centavos & English pennies) in an old leather coin purse for an extended period of time, I took them out and discovered some odd discoloration on their surfaces. They seem to have acquired what I can only describe as a purplish sort of iridescence.

Is this common? Is it a significant problem? Is it an easy fix? If so, how? And how might it be avoided in future?

Thanks in advance....

Try putting them in white vinegar with a little bit of salt...cleans all my copper coins instantly!

Storing copper in a leather holder
or purse will really discolor it.
leather has a bad effect on copper.
