What Iran does have is hundreds of Shahab 3 medium range ballistic missiles, according to U.S. estimates. The Shahab 3 also has a range of roughly 900 miles.
Without our help, all officials on both sides agree that the Iranians would penetrate Israel due to sheer numbers of missles they have and would fire at Israel. Not to mention the additionally, U.S. intelligence estimates say Iran has supplied Hezbollah with more than 40,000 short-range rockets and missiles since 2006, which although not accurate, would cause a lot of damage. But for an Isreali attack to have high odds of success aircraft would have to drop additional bombs into the cavities created by the first bombs. That would require "time on target" -- a luxury that the Israeli jets at the outermost limits of their 1,100-mile range would likely not have. While they estimate the success rate of such a plan at "better than 70 percent," they call it "complicated and highly risky." Another difficulty for attacking Iran is that Israeli aircraft would be finding a route to the targets that could be flown covertly or with the tacit approval of Sunni Arab states, who are at least as frightened of an Iranian nuclear capability as the Israelis. |

I certainly hope you are right, that Israel can take out the Nuclear site in Iran without a full blown war and our help needed, but I still think they would need our help.

I was in the first GUlf War. I have seen the capabilities of the Iraqi military. They fought a 10 year war with Iran to a stalemate. That doesn't say much about the Iranian military. The Iraqi militartary has twice crumbled. Their SCUD missles couldn't clear Iraqi air space, and not because their launchers were destroyed but because their missles were like a bunch of dud bottle rockets.
In the first Gulf War U.S. Intelligence along with intell from other countries as well as the news media constantly broadcasting interviews with military experts and retired generals saying that the Iraqi Army was more experienced and were lying in wait for us was going to decimate the U.S. Military. We on the ground knew better than that. We knew the Iraqi military was going to collapse like a wet blanket. I don't believe that Iran has anything. If they did they would have used it by now. I don't believe Israel needs our help. The only thing that concerns me is the statement that Vladimir Putin made when we launched the invasion into Iraq in 2003. He said that since Iran shared a border with Russia, should the United States invade Iran, Russia would consider that an act of aggression and would defend their sovereignty. Again, I don't fear Iran. They are all talk. Israel is the big dog in the Middle East. Peace and Godspeed.
Peace

The Iranian Judiciary's High Council for Human Rights has strongly protested at the US move to deny visas to the Iranian officials planning to attend a UN meeting in New York.
