This is a really cool item. I also tried to figure it out before watching the DVD. It fooled my girlfriend who has seen a lot of my magic. I love simple, strong effects like this.

Hmmm... the mentalist holds the box up to his/her ear and it actually "whispers" the number... is that it, Richard? Did yo create a anthropomorphic die that knows how to whisper?
...Mine is en route, and will soon cross the border. Can't wait to receive it so that I can hear for myself its whisper! :0

I think a very strong presentation is necessary, that it doesn´t fall into the category of "magic puzzle".

What's the difference in this and the old plastic tube within a plastic tube and you guess the die? It looks better?

I think one advantage besides the looks of the items is you wouldn't need any proper light to divine the number with whispering die.

With the plastic containers, you have to insert the little container into the big one yourself... the WD is truly a little gem. The box itself is beautifully made and the handling is perfect. It's rare for me to purchase an item that I'll actually use often. The Whispering Die is one of those rarities. |

Received mine today. It comes very well packaged and with a short DVD which illustrates the method very well. I thought colour vision and with that in mind when I played around with it before looking at the DVD I was able to work it fairly quickly. This will make a very good effect for those social occasions. It is very well made which will add to the interest in the presentation. Well done Mr Osterlind.

One more thing to add. Can not be performed in poor light conditions.

I, too, love the little color vision box and also the version with the tubes. I actually got both in the Sneaky Pete Magic Show kit by Remco put out in the 50's.
About the "low light" situation, let's just say that you can do The Whispering Die in anything but the poorest light where you would have trouble even doing a center tear or peek. |

Just placed my order! It's coming from CT, so I expect it should arrive very quickly to RI! Can't wait to play around with it! Will post my thoughts when I get it!

You're right, though - a good percentage of Osterlind Mysteries items come from my location in Connecticut. Unfortunately, the Whispering Die isn't one of them. However, Richard's been very quick in turning them around, sometimes shipping them the same day he gets a new batch. It'll be soon - hang in there! |

A beautiful piece of pocket mentalism. Easly carried with you, no matter what you are wearing and an intriguing prop.
I have a thought. Don't get the top number, you just "aren't feeling it." But you are getting a vibe from the side of the box. Ask the audience member if they know what number they positioned there. They will say no. "What about the bottom? Do you recall what is there?, you continue. This last question affords you significant information. If they say yes you need to be careful as the participant knows something about dice that the average person doesn't. And maybe about other magic related matters as well. MOving beyond that, now the vibe moves to the bottom! You don't have to peek since you did earlier on. You just have the box turned upside down to reveal the number even they didn't know yet. Clairvoyance! |

Richard,
Would love to see this in a version where the dice is an "esp shape" type object used for CIA MKULTRA testing during the cold war as part of thier varous tests... I can see an entire back story and supporting effects to create a nice themed routine.

Totally agree, mmreed! I was thinking of demonstrating this as a JB Rhine experiment after some ESP card work, saying the participants were asked to place the box against their third eye and try to see the dots in their mind.
But I would also LOVE a die with the ESP symbols on them. Would lead to some very interesting routines! |
