So I was at the Magic shop today, and this amateur magician comes in, he was asking about a specific card trick, but he didn't know the name of it, neither I nor the owner had heard about it before, but I told him I would see what I could find, the way he described it was more or less that the magician takes an ace and three "random" cards, and holds them spread in his hands, he flips them over, and flips them back, and possibly does this a few times, but in the end all of the cards are aces, the closest thing I could find was this http://www.ellusionist.com/shin-splint-s......___SID=U which could naturally be changed to do something like what he was talking about I'm sure, but I don't think that's what he was referring to, so, anybody ever heard of such an effect?

In various versions of McDonald's Aces, this is done several times. One of those versions, "McFiki's Jumbo Aces" from The Wizards' Journal #23, could be adapted to perform the original poster's effect with just the one Ace and three random cards by using the method Qua-Fiki has devised for transforming the final ace of the McFiki Ace routine all by itself.

Could he possibly have been talking about NFW? There's no ace at the start, but you know things sometimes getting mixed up in the re-telling.

Thanks both of you, I'll look up both of these and show them to him, maybe one of them is it

The Shin Lim effect doesn't quite fit what you're saying. My guess would be he's not remembering the trick correctly.
Also, if he's an amateur, and he's looking to purchase something, Shin Lim is not a good first purchase. That is a pretty advanced trick.

Magicelam, you know that, I know that, but he doesn't seem to know that, I've run into him at college and talked to him, he's working with some basic sleights right now along with a few gimmicks, actually he's going nuts with an invisible deck right now. but he sees this or that and then wants to be able to do it haha, I showed him Shin Split and he said that wasn't the way they did it, so he's not looking t that anyway, I'm just trying to find what he was looking at for him, I let him know it was an advanced trick, and I don't know if the one he saw was or not. but he's always talking about all this great stuff he sees and I figure ultimately the way he's gonna learn how to stay within his skill level is the same way I learned, buy something outside of it and have it sit on the shelf for a few years

Hey, if he can learn it, more power to him! That stuff is awesome. Just don't wanna see him get frustrated... I've finally sold off all of my "drawer" stuff... haha... took years! I'll keep looking and see if I can find anything like you describe.

Gary...a bit off subject, but you're right about staying within your skill level. one of the first tricks I bought (i knew no magicians at the time to lead me in the right direction) was holey terror 2 by mike powers...a great trick, but not for the beginner. truth is, there are many, many, many impressive and great tricks at all skill levels to keep us all busy for a very long time.

Do you think maybe he is mis-remembering NFW?

Sorry everyone I forgot about this topic entirely (yikes) I showed him NFW and he said that wasn't it, the closest thing I could find was 4change, an instant download from Ellusionist.
he's moved on a bit though, I got him working on an erdnase change right now, and the pass, which I think is a strange combination but he saw me use the pass and wanted to learn how to do it, so I showed him the proper way. between those and a few flourishes he's got plenty of stuff to work on, I'm hoping that by the time he brings it up again he will realize that the effect is more important than the method and he'll pick up one of these. |

Whenever a person says, "I seen this trick", always get where they seen it. As most people do not normally see card magic everywhere. Most of the time if you pin them down, they will finally say youtube. Now you can have him show you the trick and go from there. As we all know most of the tricks on youtube, would not impress us, but I have read some of these viewers think they are really something to view.
As there are over a million card tricks since the, it is kind of hard to give accurate answers, as you you have gotten mostly current references. I find many times, it is the old tricks that puzzle magicians that only buy and learn new stuff. |

Well see that's the problem, he said he saw it on youtube but he can't find it again on youtube, so I've really only got his discription to go on. it's hard to find good magic on youtube that's for sure, probably because it's all the idiots posting to youtube looking for fame, and all the decent performers working gigs to put food on the table. there is some good magic on there, but finding it is the hard part.
