We're looking for great tricks more than those we enjoy performing.

I always begin my routine with "Now You See It" from RRTCM. I think it is also known as Four In A Row. Penguin changed the name swiped it, as they have done with several tricks from TRRTCM, and sells it as an single trick.

I think one of the reasons it does not appear to be a favorite is because it uses the glide. I find that using it as an opener before other slights are employed raises no eyebrows. I also introduce it as "The Trick That Never Works" which seems to go well witht the reveal at the end while evoking some sympathy that I play out for as much yardage as I can get.

It really is a great opener because at the end the card is not on the table, but then it is making it impossible. If you try this one do not use the glide again in that session.

It has been called to my attention that I seemed to be saying the trick suffers because of the use of the Glide, that is not at all what is meant. What I mean is, and this is only a guess because I do not see the trick getting any votes, that the Glide might be felt to be inadequate and a suspicioius way of showing the cards.

Someone at (The Magic Castle?) once told me that when beginning a routine one should "Hit them in the head with a 2 by 4." It will stun them into believing anything that follows. This trick does exaclty that because when the card is revealed it is impossible that it is there.

Timely Departure-Bannon.Almost self working, easy to do
and contains great elements ie
vanishes,reverses.
Jumping Gemini-Ortiz.Resonably easy(very easy if you
were Ortiz),with and excellent
reaction from the audience.
Triumph-Dai Vernon.
Membrane-Paul Harris.Moving a pen mark on and off a
card is a hoot.
Between the Palms-Elmsley.
This is just the effects I perform the most and get the best reactions from. There are many other excellent tricks and it would be impossible to list all the best card effects.Fayaad give your favorites.

Spadone, a lot of people think I am a beginner at magic because I look so young

No, because ambitous card is old school and new school, so most card magicians know it well. Also, some assume the because you state card to ceiling is the best trick, when it really isn't all that spectacular in comparison to a lot of other card tricks, but hey: The trick is only the vehicle and the MAGICIAN makes the magic. A lot of the new effect are on ellusionist.com and penguinmagic.com, but you already know where to go for old school.

Still very happy to avoid most of those tricks.

I suspect the one where you table a card, then ask them to name a card is about the strongest direct trick one can do with cards. The other stuff tends to come across as 'clever'.

I know its a less popular trick these days but surely "Drunkman shuffle" deserves a mention...

Its my favourite trick because there's no prearrangement necessary...borrowed deck...One sleight, one misdirection, good patter, visual illusion and verbal confusion, and pow strong visual finish. Maybe this trick goes under a different name? I have never found it in a book, just word of mouth passage...

What is the double lift? I hear a lot of you mention it. Is it a good trick?
If you ever get to a point where words have no meaning, you're probably talking to a dog.

Doomo: I assume this is a joke. But in case it is not, it is not a trick. Pick up a basic beginner's book on card magic and you will find your answer. And, hopefully, we've avoided the onslaught.
