In another thread, Mind pro mentioned becoming an known expert and local celebrity. I really like this idea. I do a lot of kids parties and farmers market, so pretty much everywhere I go, a kid recognizes me, but I want to expand on this next year.
In the past, local celebs were djs, and tv news folks etc. but with the internet, things are changing. I looked up some articles about this online, and they pretty much said to socialize. what are ways you could become a local celebrity? Or how did you become a local celebrity? |

I've been in magazines around town and on the news, and in the paper, but the old media didn't really get anyone to recognize me. I was in a few commercials and that got some people to recognize me, but I am wary about tv. I don't watch it, so I don't think it can be effective, but I suppose just because I don't watch, doesn't mean other people don't.

Here is an idea I had rolling around in my head that might get some recognition.
There is a site called Record Setter It is a mix between a you tube and Guinness World Records. You go on there, pick a record to break, or set and do it. I can be simple like, most jumping jacks in a minute, or something weird, like my "Most Mousetraps Set Off On Tongue In 30 Seconds While Standing On Broken Glass" world-record/mousetraps-set-off-tongue-30-while-standing-broken-glass/14681 Whatever you can quantify. Submit a video and usually in a day or two it is on the site. So my idea is this: Set up a stage in a mall or somewhere public like that. Advertise it so people prepare. Get sponsors to sponsor each record broken or set, like a Bike-a-thon- or bowl-a-thon kinda thing. Individuals or business can pledge 25 cents for each record or whatever. Set up a webcam, and video cameras to record and upload the records. Maybe a radio remote. Get people, or groups to get up on stage, break a record or make one up and do it. For each record set, a charity gets a donation. So for example, we get 100 people to give a quarter for each record. That is $25 a record set. So someone gets up and sets the record for "Most hops on one foot while singing a lady Gaga song in 30 seconds" $25 bucks. And then the next guy. Lets say we get 20 records in an hour, that's $500 an hour for charity for however many hours and in that hour the individuals only donated $5.00 each. Obviously they can donate more. 50 cents times 100= $50 an hour times 20 records an hour = $1000 an hour, $10 from each person or business. You can have a whole bunch of crazy props on the stage so people can get up on the fly and do something. |

As I also slightly touched on in another post - host your own t.v. show. There are many ways to do this quite affordably, and this is an excellent way to create local celebrity, position yourself within the community, and garner top prices over your competition.
