Not discussing Mark Edward only discussing his work Sense and Seance, could you give me your thoughts on the material? I am intrested in knowing more about it I have already purchased it so I guess its too late to sway me away but as I wait for the post man to bring the package what can you tell me about it and if there is anything you have to say about this book. I did find a thread but it seemed to spiral out into discussion of the artist and not the art.
Thanks, Kyle. |

I am bumping this thread, as I really would like some informed opinions about this material. How usable is it? How unique is the material compared to other books on seance working? A bit of a detailed synopsis of what you get would be useful too. Thanks folks.

While I am not able to comment of Sense and Seance because I have not read it but the other items I have read from Mark are good as I always learn something useable.
What I am qualified to speak on is the topic of seances in general having written a lot of stuff on that subject over the years. Here is the thing with all seance genres in general look at each seance work on its own merits from a perspective of what can I learn form this work and then apply this information either as a whole or take some of its elements that you like from it and apply those items and things to seance work that you want to do. Here the thing. Sometime when I read a work on the seance I see things that I do not like and at the same time I see things that can be applied to what I want to achieve in my seance work. My favorite style of the seance is what has become known as the traditional style of seance which is held out in the country in a small building more of a small shack. Wherein after dinner and leaving the main house and before you enter guns are shots are fired off in rapid fashion to call the spirits and let them know your about to enter the spirit house. Then upon entering strange music is played by every one involved. Here in laying around the room are many instruments and everyone is encourage to pick up an instrument and start playing. Remember the mediums host and others non sitters just fired off a bunch of guns. Your going to play music weather you got talent or not and your going to like it. This is done as the medium takes his or her seat at the table and begins contact through automatic writing. Later spirit manifestation may occur. This style of seance occurred in Ohio during the 1850s at the house of Koons who attended his first seance held by one of the daughters of John Tippie. This style of seance will scare the H*LL out of most modern seance workers as they have never experienced a seance that is more like a wild country hootenanny where in everyone is drinking moonshine from the still of Popcorn and getting wild. Then the single candle is suddenly extinguished and is completely dark and the music stops. Then the only sound that can be heard sounds like the medium writing on paper in the front of the room. Then some strange events begins to really occur. Compare that style of seance to what occurs now where everyone is trying to be quite like they are in a library or at a funereal or something the two are completely different. I wrote the Koons-Tippie style of seance up in The Secret History of the Seance if it seems familiar to some of you that's where you would have read it in my works on the subject. Now I know for a fact that I could take any seance work ever written and apply something of use to any style of seance that I wanted to conduct. Weather it be the wild seance I just described or one that is much more toned down. But I think you may have a winner of a work heading your way. As I always found something within Marks works that was worth much more than I paid for the work when applied. Now after you get it read it and play around with the concepts within I and others hear would like a full report on the work. Mainly because it does look interesting and has peeked my interest. Cheers Bill Montana PS when I find a new country location I will be holding another traditional style of seance in Ohio. As the last place we used was struck by lighting and has burned down since the last time we held a event. It was a great location too. What a shame. Its seems that may be an unexplained patter among the seance building used for this type of seance as they always seem to burn down weather by nature or the mobs that get upset. Or maybe its the just curse of the seance. |

It's a good book, if you have been doing seances or have read a lot of other seance material it won't break much new ground, if this is a start for you it's a good place. That said it's a really good entry to mid level book on the topic, but definitely worth having (if you are thinking about more of Marks work get Bundles) I'd also suggest getting Scott Davis book titled Seance as it had contributions on a plethora of seance work and lots to think about.

I forgot to mention Mark will go into detail on things often left out disclaimers and the like, so after you have read that grab one of Bills works and the Davis book and you will be set for a while

The Seance book by Scott Davis you are referring to ... is it the compilation of the Seance magazines or does Scott Davis have another book by the same name?
Thanks -Robert |

the Bigger Book of Boo by T. Everett Bookings http://www.lulu.com/us/en/shop/lary-kueh......085.html and not Seance exactly but can easily be woven in Rick Maue's book of haunted magick

Just a comment from someone who was there in the dark ages. Scott and I have been personal friends for years. One night when he was in Dallas for a NPR meeting he came out for dinner at our house. At the time he was "retiring" from editing Vibrations for the PEA. As the evening progressed we talked about would the "ghostly" community support a newsletter. Before the night was over Seance was created. I agreed to write the Tips column and came up with the Between The Slates for the editorial lead. Within a couple of weeks, the columnists - Jim Magus, et al - were lined up and publication began. After 12 issues, Scott just got burned out and that is very understandable. For years Jim and I and some others tried to convince him to publish one truly last issue that would be #13, The Final Seance. After all in tradition, you have 12 sitters and the medium is the 13th person in the room.
We still can't convince him to do a LAST issue. Lary/TEB3/Traveler |

Thanks for the nice comments Gentlemen. Hoping everyone has a great 2015.
And yes, I am working on a new project. Sometimes it gets difficult to get the three of me on the right track because our brain arguments prolong the process. I'll let everyone know here. Just trying to get things right. TEB3/Lary/Traveler |

Best to you Vlad. The reason I don't come up to Hartford any more is simple. The three or four times I went to the ICBM I came home with really bad bronchitis. That did not happen when I came up in the summer for the MOTM a couple of years ago.
We're very well and the only bummer was that I couldn't train the coyotes to pull a sleigh. I'll just have to keep trying. I think it was all the mold and crap in that hotel. The one with the nasty bartender and the really bad food. Lary/TEB3/Traveler |
