How many volumes are there in "Easy to Master Thread Miracles"? I've seen one called "Ammar Thread Miracles 3", is that the right one to get?
So lets say if I want to purchase a video or DVD That teaches me how to float small objects. Which one should I get??? Please advise?? |

Funnybusiness,
Jon LeClair teaches how to make, re-make, and use his "LeClair Animator" with devastating results which he demonstrates in real-life restaurant work on his video "Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread?". Ammar's DVDs are of course a must-have if you are building your library. Either source is excellent for theory, handling, and good effects. |

The Fearson floating cig hookup is great.
I don't use it because I could never find a way to carry it around or set it up.It was awkward to set up for close up strolling. How does everyone handle that problem? |

Your Ear. Sure It's Leclaire but think about it.

Thanks, twistedace!
I'm an idiot. Of course, working the cig up to my mouth, etc., is tricky off the ear, huh? |

Play with it, it's not as hard as you think. It's just one of those things you have to get used to.

Don't forget to go directly to Steve Fearson's website - he has some material you would be interested in for a lot less than the Ammar DVD's (BTW- I own them, and while they are good- I feel they are over rated) Good Luck

If you wan't to float a bill, get the "trick" called Floating Dollar. There's nothing wrong with it but the folks here are trying to point you in a way that will give you more knowledge and bang for the buck.
FunnyBusiness, after reading through your posts, it's pretty clear that you don't know the gimmick and that's okay.. I was there once I have enough gimmick now to float the city of New York to Seattle and it cost less than $5.... Skip buying a "Floating Bill" trick and instead look for somthing with Fearson's or LeLair's name attached.. you'll be way ahead of the game! |

GaryW, yes you are right. I don' really know the gimmick!! I think it should be some sort of IT. I recently downloaded the floating cigarette by Steve Fearson, hoping to learn how to make small object float. In his routine, is that the Fearson's hook-up?

Ok , I'd say buy an IT reel, its far easier to set up and manipulate while it is set up, for uses with a floating bill, card float, or pretty much anything the IT will hold. It is well worth the investment and its not just a beginner trick. Pros will use it too, IT is A VERY strong tool in magic, but do get a good book on working with it

I was most interested in the ITR but I learned a lot of other useful ideas, too. I also have the Steve Fearson ThreadHead video, which isn't bad. On the whole, I got more value out of the Ammar vids, though. Jester J |

I'm getting a little bit confused now. I've never used IT before and all these terms come up which seem unfamiliar!! People have been talking about different hook-up, loops, ITRs etc. I've absolutely no idea what they are about. Can someone please explain?? What is a loop, ITR?? Is it just another term for IT??
***************** It seems my post is being forgotten, so I've move it up to get some replies !!!hehehe.. |

I don't work with IT much but I believe a loop is a loop of thread. An ITR is an invisible thread reel. IT is Invisible Thread.
BTW: That isn't a good reason to post just to get your topic back up.

Check out Andrew Dakota's "Salem" which is a floating cig method. The method might be useable for floating a wadded up bill. It's quite a bit different from the LeClair hookup.

Funnybusiness,
If this is your first floating trick? I really suggest you to get Easy to Master Thread Miracles by Ammar. You will learn two kinds of "hook-ups" and ways to use the gimmick. Ammar's methods and Fearson's method both have it's strength and weaknesses, plus you will learn different ways to handle the gimmick. I also heard about the Le claire DVD but I don't have it yet so I can't give any comment. If your going to buy just the "Floating bill" effect you will just get the basic handling and I'm telling you now that later on you will still want to buy a DVD to expand your knowledge. So might as well get the DVD now to save you some bucks. Floating effect is great. I always do one everytime I perform. Just remember to practice first and have fun. deck01

Deck01 thanks for your suggestion. I actually got quite a lot of feedback to get the Ammar's or LeClaire DVD. I love floating effects but the setup is quite frustrating. Also there are conditions to suit with the effect such as the lighting. Does anyone know where I can buy the 'Beeswax sheet' and 'Wooly Nylon' in UK???

I would recommend Ammar's DVD's over Leclair's. Not to put down Leclair's DVD or anything, it's just that Ammar covers many different types of hookups which would be good for you since you're just starting. If you like Leclair's hookup that much, then his DVD would be good for learning tricks using his hookup.

This thread has inspired me... no pun intended. I got Leclair's DVD and found it really easy to get started with his hook up. I find his insturction clear and well focused. This is a great way to get started. He even encloses some IT and putty so you can get right to work.
I've done close up with cards/coins for years but I've always shy'd away from IT. I’ve played with ITRs, found it frustrating and put it down for 20 years. Recently I bough Ammar's IT DVDs. Found Ammar very good but I was overwhelmed with all the methods and diversity the of Thread magic. Had no idear where to start. Ammar’s theory is an encyclopedia of everything you’d ever want to know about IT magic and I still recommend it. I've bought "packaged" effecs fiddled around and never got anywhere.... Every now and then I see someone do IT effect and it looks like pure magic. Last night, for the first time, I've been able to really plow through a floating bill routine without breaking the thread.... when will it look like REAL MAGIC? Probably many months from now... but I'm determined to add a good floating effect to my repertoire. I Think Jon Leclair's video is the perfect way to get started.... good luck, and thanks for the starting this thread... it got me going!
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!
