You have obviously been practicing. I believe that the sleights are excellent. I have to refer to Levent regarding the hand washing sequence. No matter how well they are performed, they look terrible and it is obvious even to laymen that you just hiding the ball. Unless you have a visible object you are transferring as well.
My second gripe is that I don't understand your motivation. Your actions and the various events that are taking place with the balls have no context and thus appear to be less magical and more a demonstration of skill. As far as I can see your sleights are great. I just feel that the routine would be much more magical if it was simple and easier to follow. Please don't take this criticism as negative. It is meant to be constructive. I am struggling with similar issues while routining my own manipulation act. |

I like your routine and your choice of music. I always thought that Herb Albert had good magic music. Now I must agree with Gr8gorilla about not wanting to come off negative. I just want to give my opinion so don't take any of it the wrong way.
I think you have a start of a good routine. You got good reactions from the audience which is great. But, you can' make this stronger. Analyse the routine. Ask yourself why you do certain moves at certain times. For the first vanish, use a little bit of pantomime to strengthen the illusion of transferring the ball. When you “drop” the ball from the right hand to your left hand, let the left hand drop a little as if it just caught the ball. Feel the ball in your hand. Pretend that you are moving it forward to your finger tips before you make it slowly disappear. Another point is to really use the music to its fullest. Don't have it as background. There is lots of accents in the music to use for productions and vanishes. Take advantage of it. Even have the music influence your character mood. There is a pause in the music where it seems that it's done, then picks ups with the bump bump bump part. You act like you are finished. Feel relived, then the music starts up. Shrug shoulders or raise your eyebrows and continue producing more balls. Then I think it does it again if I am not mistaken. Start to put the balls away and "bump, bump, bump bump" music starts again. More balls are produced. Now you are wise to the music. You expect it to start again, and then you get the ending cord that signals no more balls. To get the idea for this kind of acting, watch Fred Kaps when he does the Salt Shaker trick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYh_vPGApbo The salt just gets out of hand. This kind of thinking can be used here. Not copied, but the basic idea of being plagued by your tricks. Hope this helps. |

Thank you very much for your comments...
@gr8Gorilla: I didn't take your comments as negative, nothing at all... I will take note about the hand washing and the motivation... yes, it looks like a demonstration of skill... I'm working about the "why" I'm multiplying balls. @mtpascoe: yeah, you're so right, the "false end" of the song have much potential I have wasted... I will work in it... the first vanish could be better, no doubt... I'm working in it. I hope to improve the routine and post it again in here for your comments and very constructive tips... thank you very much!! muchas gracias, saludos desde Chile |
