Hi! I just saw this listing on eBay.
It's from John Pizzi. Selberg Studio Wireless Remote Controlled Max Ventriloquist Puppet http://www.ebay.com/itm/Selberg-Studio-W......96349371 Very cool! I know Ronn Lucas has automations on Scorch. But is anyone else using these kinds of devices in their acts today? |

David Strassman has been doing this for a few years now and has developed his own animatronics device. It's really very clever

7500 for it! wow! IMHO it seems a little pricey to me. Its a 100.00 radio that's like 5 yrs old with 15.00 servos. Icould see the price if the servos were hidden in the head. He says he paid 10 to 12 grand for it wow if that's the case I should have a great businees going with the anamatronic system I am devoloping...lol |

I may be wrong, but there may be a clue in the article as to why he refuses to attend a conVENTion. On another note, he always reminded me of someone and I finally figured it out: Cal Ripkin. |

I thought I would chime in here.. Besides doing vent; I am also a special effects artist for film. I do a lot of extensive animatronics for that side of my business and I have been incorporating animatronics and remote controlled puppets/portions of puppets in my own show for the past 13 years.
Just to clarify and geek out a little bit: There is a bit of difference between an animatronic puppet like Strassmans chuck and Ronn Lucas scorch.. Chuck is indeed a fully animatronic puppet in that it can be controlled totally via remote control.. Whereas the main Scorch that Ronn uses is still a hand puppet that utilizes some remote controlled features.. Ronn still controls the head and Mouth with his hand, but the eyes and brows (and sometimes foot) are done off stage by 'hidden magical forces'. What amazes me is that most electronic childrens toys are so much more advanced and technically impressive than any animatronic puppet used by any vent act.. Makes you wonder if today's kids will be that impressed with our wireless wonders.. When they probably have something better in their toy chest!! |

I've not seen the other vents with their animatronics, but in my opinion regarding Strassman's Chuck (who I have seen) the effectiveness of using this technology is achieved because the audience is involved with both of them during their performance and then Strassman leaves the stage and Chuck suddenly seems to come alive giving the audience an instant impression of him being independent (and that's the wow factor). He's taking ventriloquism and using that fear factor of the dummy being real that a lot of people seem to have and turning it upon the audience right at the end. That's clever.

Paul Zerdin leaves the stage and his puppet Sam comes to life. The routine closed his DVD. Very cool bit - but a much different feeling since Sam is a soft character.

I also saw a Davenport figure with remote... I corresponded with the vent a few years ago but for now his name escapes me.

There was also Billy Davis who performed mind reading with his remotely controlled Frank Marshall figures. Billy walked in the audience while his figure sat on the stage answering questions and moving around. Nothing is new!!
