About a year or two ago I saw David Lecture here in Wisconsin for the local IBM ring. This was his opening effect, and it killed. It was incredibly funny, he used a glass of Budweiser (we were in a church lol) and it is very simple in design to do. It’s a modern adaptation of a classic effect.
Not only is this effect great, (as are all the other effects in Approaching magic) but David Regal puts on one hell of a lecture. (David Regal, Chad Long, Wayne Houchin have all been my favorites)

Blindside, I actually found Magic Trick Store. Thanks.
I ain't lazy. From Charlie's post, I thought it is Magic Trick Shop. Anyway, this will be my first buy from Magic Trick Store. How are your experience with this dealer so far? |

OK what are the odds of the glass falling to the floor and making a mess in someones living room?

I've performed it many times for friends and family and never once had the glass fall. I recommended Davids book over the single effect however because you get this and so much more. -Bobby |

I just wanted to chime in as an overwhelmingly satisfied owner of David's VOR.
The items supplied are virtually indestructible unless you burn the finely crafted mat or spill acid on it. I'm always proud to share this effect as an opener, but I use much finer beer than my buddy Dave uses... Enjoy this effect, you won't be sorry gang! |

I actually had a little problem finding the right glass. Many plastic glasses that I found online had bottoms that were too thick to work securely when water was in the glass. The thin plastic cups that lattes come in we're too thin. I found a good plastic cup at a dinner. Pretty big but thin walled. With a little practice you will know what feels secure

I had the same problem - most of the plastic glasses I tried were actually acrylic and had very thick bottoms. I wrote to David and found out what he was using and bought the same. Working well now.

So where can we get a glass like the one David is using? Most of the plastic glasse I have seen have a bottom that is indented making it hard to remove the gimmick.

I answered a few questions via PM about the cup that I use and where I found it.
Having said that, look for the creator, "David Regal", to show up very soon to respond. He's a bit hungover from the Oscar Awards after parties, etc... |

Hi there -
Someone just emailed me and pointed me to this thread... I have used a variety of glasses - the one I use in the video is a Newport 16 oz plastic tumbler made by Cambro. The flexible plastic glasses sold in bulk at grocery stores, and used for beer at some bars and sporting events, work very well, too. Convenience stores often have nice plastic glasses next to their self-serve soda dispenser! Hope this helps, David |

Just watched the instructional DVD for this and have to concur with the other posts- this is very good. Simple, baffling and just down right fun to perform. If you like what you see- you will not be disappointed!
