The only thing I hate about SEO is the extra amount of phone calls I receive from callers trying to sell me something. Some call me about improving my SEO. I am already on the first page. I get calls from investors, credit card companies, etc. Half of the calls are answering machines. I am already on the "do not call" list. It is frustrating.

That is why I only have my contact form. On it it states that the use of this form to send unsolicited advertisements is a violation of 15 U.S.C. 7701!
The best part is when they do send me an unsolicited ad I just send an email stating that they are in violation and they are being reported to the proper authorities. I never hear back from them again! |

Magicians amuse me. They think nothing of bombarding people with crap to make sure they are "top of mind" yet complain when others try to sell them things.
It is people doing a job. Why begrudge them that?

In some states the do not call list only applies to non-businesses. I'm in one of them.

If you have call display, you can simply not answer the calls from area codes outside your normal working area. Let it go to your voicemail.
A good portion of incoming sales calls seem to be from outside my normal working area. - Donald

How would you feel about that person and any other person that knocks on your door to sell you something? And Be Honest. People in the IM world are taught that local business are stupid and need their help. They are told by these so called guru's out there to hound the heck out of a small business until they buy! The tactics they use are considered SPAM. If someone contacts me for the first time I tell them I am not interested. If I keep getting hounded by them like in the example above -- that is also considered Harassment! That is why I put that on my contact site and that is why I contact their hosting company letting them know that their client is doing something illegal. |

Aren't all B2B calls exempt from the "Do Not Call" list at the national level?
I was also thinking the Spam Law was only to prevent obscene email, emails with fake or fraudulent return addresses, and emails with false or illegal intent. Meaning a legitimate business offering a legitimate service can legally send unsolicited email. Finally, I got one of these Digitone Call Blockers and it works great. I set mine to block every phone in the world by default and only pass through the area codes (and some individual numbers) I want to work with. I also blocked some numbers inside the passed areas. You can send the blocked calls to an answering machine if you want. I don't. I just have them blocked. You can use it for "whole-house" or on individual jacks. I only have two phones. My second phone does ring on everything but it rings softly and has a built-in Caller ID. I have it that way just in case I want to pick up something that is blocked by the device. I've had it since July and it has worked flawlessly exactly the way I wanted. DISCLAIMER: I have no vested interest in the company or any affiliates. It just works so well for me I wanted to tell you about it.

I am quite annoyed by e-mail from performers who saw the latest marketing guru nonsensical ramblings. Like I said magicians amuse me. Not in the way they all seem to think. But yes if someone rang the bell that much it might get old.

Danny, no it hasn't happened that much it was really just an example. Just like you get annoyed at the magicians who email you I get annoyed at the SEO companies who attend a free webinar and then abuse the tactics that were being taught.
In the past I actually had phone calls like the example I gave for the door knocking. It finally stopped when I threatened to go to the FCC and the FTC for harassment. Now when I get emails like that I simply threaten a law suit and that normally stops them from emailing me anymore. |

I thought it was a pretty silly example to tell the truth.
I simply hit DEL and the email is gone. No harm no foul. But get annoyed? Abuse the tactics? I guess it is relative.

Simple fix,
Block their email or unsubscribe. For the phone calls, ask them to put you on their do not call list. Yes, sometimes the phone calls are excessive and these companies are a pain and a time killer. If they keep calling, we just tell them, oh you have the wrong number this isn't a business, what is a website? Oh we don't need one of those. Usually keeps them away for a month or two. lol

Yes, usually after it speaks it has an option to press the number 2 to be removed from their calling list....

It's one of the costs of doing business. How many unsolicited phone calls do you think Microsoft, or Walmart, gets trying to sell them SEO, credit processing services, etc?

Lets not forget guys that in the end this is people working to try to put food in mouths and shoes on kids feet. You may look down on it but it is indeed honest work for honest pay. In these tough times maybe a bit of understanding might be in order is all I am saying. Not everyone has a dream job ya know.
