Last Saturday Night was another great show. I wasn't great, the audience and the party were!
It was a special Holiday all ages gathering with the younger guests gathered down in front and everyone else around the back and filling in spaces, about 60 guests in all (15 children, 45 adults). Wonderful audience, really great people. For all age performances I explain to the younger guests I don't perform a children's show and they are mature and smart enough for the adult show, and they always agree. The children love the idea. Of course some of the routines are reworked a little and I do my unique coloring book routine. One of the adults asked me after the show. "Of course you do an adult show? We would like to hire you for our event". Often an adult will ask if you perform children shows, with the right persona and presentation we can change perspectives. Can we please consider elevating audiences and the art?

Am starting to see magic making a come back as an entertainment form.
and it's from the bottom up, there are no real big names in magic currently in the media. Copperfield ... playing Vegas how many ever weeks a year, low profile. Angel.... tied up with Cirque and finally stopped poor behavior, low profile. Blaine.... said will stop doing crazy stunts, seems the lay public is a bit over him, profile down. Penn & Teller .... great show, great guys, Penn does a lot as well as Teller but not mass media stars. Burton... working on movie and whatever interest him ... low profile. So... how did acts (fortunately myself included) book more (better and more prestigious) shows for higher fees than ever last year? Magic coming back from the bottom up. Please as this year is ending and a new one beginning give some though to your show and how you will be growing. Myself, am working on a new act that is unique and I have no idea how it will go over. I can't even see the end of it yet, but that's how I'll grow in the New Year. Even if the new act fails I'll grow from what I learned on the journey. What will you be doing?

I think you are making a mistake.
You are attributing things that happened because of your own hard work to some greater level of magic awareness. You made it happen.

Thanks Danny, that's very kind of you
(none of my business but have your bookings picked up over the past 6 - 12 months?) I don't know much outside of the market I work DC and Northern Virginia (and some national inquiries of late) but here it seems magic is getting more popular as an entertainment form. More companies are hiring magicians for their functions (could the market becoming back? if so it might happen here before the rest of the country outside LA and NYC). A good friend who is a national stand up comedy magic act (heavy on comedy, light on magic) based out of DC is booking more now than in the past 5 years. Another possible contributing factor in the DC/NOVA market is there are at least 4 good quality acts performing regularly. I like to believe (possible deluding myself) that when an audience sees a good magician act they are more likely to hire a magician to entertain at their event. It's a time when no real big names are in the media regularly but AGT is actively reaching out to magicians (not as squash acts) even getting into Magic Magazine asking for auditions (it may be spin). I turned them down 3 times in the past but ..... Maybe it's wishful thinking but it appears magic is growing from the ground up ;-) Now if we can just keep it growing by giving the public quality acts to see on a regular basis (a.k.a. please consider elevating audiences and the art!)
