Hello, I'm making act with balls, cards and parasols in that order. So, what would be the best opener for the parasol part? Thanks.

Produce the parasol!
I was about 6 years old. My first magician!>>>STANLEY SUSAN<<< "Stanley the Magician" walked on stage, showed us a pretty foulard (on both sides!)shook it, and an OPEN parasol appeared on the floor. It was the first trick I had ever seen--and it determined my life!!! (I'm now 81) About 8 years later, I had started "performing". I was able to contact Stanley, and he showed me how to do it. It was the opening of my "act" (?) for several years, in the '40s. I often do it now when I lecture for magicians. It "caught" a number of young guys, the last time I lectured at the Castle (1979 !) In the last 20 + years, PARASOLS have nearly superseded doves (??!!??)and you don't have to feed them! If you aren't sure how to produce one, PM me. Maybe I can help. You tube has a number of guys demo-ing their parasol acts. Some are excellent, and a few,I've seen, are anything but.

Be aware that you may be performing the ball and card manipulations while having a j@cket full of p@r@sols. So I would move them first. If that is the case, there are lots of flashy productions using the sl**ves.
I like to produce a half dozen little ones and them move on to a large production that is part of mutilated p@r@sol, hope that helps. |

Bill, yes.. I have thinked about it.. But it is impossible.. My act has a story, and if I change the position of parasols in the act, I need to change my story... The sl**ve productions would be the best, but its not nice to do something else when parasols are in there... So, I need to figure out an opener, where the parasols are NOT in the sl**ves... Anyone have any idea?????? Thanks.

Try using the silk trick THIS to hold the parasols. Then you can load a few of them and produce it from there.

I make a couple versions of it but I don't have a video up of it. Information is on the website.
It is nice as you do not have to have a body load at all. Richard

After you do your ball and card manipulations your could grab a piece of flash string and make a silk appear and go into your parasol act

Or also you could make a card appear on a string then pluck card of string(flash string) and light string and make silk apperand go into your parasol act

I bought "this" from bob sanders for my daughters act and it was perfect for what we were using it for. well made and awesome silks.
however I would not want produce parasols from THIS as it would look to much like you are just pulling it out of the silks which is what you are indeed doing. Magic Hands made an umbrella production using the THIS gimmick (i have it) bought it 15 years ago or so and after a few months of performing thinking it was awesome I watched a video of me performing it and pretty much the next show I took it out of the show! I ended up using it but only producing one or two umbrellas instead of the 5 it came with. I then produced the others in different ways. the parasols anywhere DVD offers a few good ideas as well as there are some other dvds out there now with parasol magic on them. currently I use 2 medium parasol during my opener and they are produced from my SL#### or I should say that is where I steal them from. I am in works with 2 larger ones and one full size umbrella with 2 other triple appearing parasols. but I still do doves and yes I have to feed them. sam

Actually you can do some things with p@r@sols in your mid back and front left and right cumberbund no problem, just keep you coat buttoned. And don't bend over. Or turn around.
If you can get to a side stage you can load up a sl**ve or two. This is exciting in that you did your act and nobody was aware that you had all these p@r@sols. On the other hand you have to DO your act with all those p@r@sols. |

I played with an idea of having a fade out near the end of my act which would give me enough time to put the parasol up my sleeve. Then light a candle to bring the lights up again and then go into parasol from silk. I scrapped it because Jeff McBride came up with a better routine for me.

I think it's best to start with the parasols and end with balls of cards. The modern audience has a short attention span, and they judge you and your act within minutes of seeing you. So start the show with something big to blow them away and excite them!

Okay, again. First I will do a ball levitation (That something big for laymen?). Then I will eat it. Then I will go into my card manipulation routine. Then I will go into the parasol routine and at the end produce a jumbo.. I have found a way of loading your t**le's back with parasols, and I can steal them nicely.

If you are producing from a belt, be careful with leaving them in too long and jumping around a lot. The parasols might fall out. Also,, parasol loads can limit the way you can move, I would rather get the parasols out of the way so you can move freely
