Not only is he (apparently) confessing, but he is also (apparently) turning rat in exchange for special consideration:

I don't know if Buzz Bissinger is a big cheese or not, (never heard of him before today) but as a Pulitzer Prize winner, he wrote for the cover of Newsweek last August -
"I Still Believe In Lance Armstrong" He has now put his hand up to say he had it wrong. "The interview is to air Thursday. But I will give you a preview now for determining his veracity: Whatever he says, subtract by a thousand, divide by two, then three, then multiply the whole sum of (male cow excrement) by zero."

Lance Armstrong actually swapped out his BLOOD to trick the tests.
That is hardcore. Imagine a stoner using a catheter to swap out his PEE to pass a drug test and get a job. There may be a market for a kit there. PEESTRONG? DD |

He may well have been the greatest cheat in an era of cheats. That doesn't make him the greatest. At least in my book

If he was doped up, and it's now obvious that he was, then he is in no way; 'the best of the best.' The best of the best is the guy that lost to him without doping.

And if they were all doped up?
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

One simply does not work their way up to that level of performance without being 1) a genetically gifted, absolutely phenomenal athlete (VO2 max and the whole nine yards) and 2) Doping.
I suspect that anyone here who is a serious and accomplished (clean) bike racer recognizes the huge seperation between what they can do and what these guys do. While most of us (racers) didn't want to believe it - doping was essential to even get the kind of performance that would get you recognized or considered for elite competition. Further, if you weren't already at the very pinnacle of athleticism, don't even bother with doping - it still wouldn't be enough. What they do is truly superhuman by definition. They win no prizes for ethics however. |

I am not sure everyjne does it but I am willing to wager anyone of notierity in the sport does. Does not make it right just a fact of life in the sport.

During my life I always played by the rules and never was tempted to play fast and loose with them. However, I never am critical of those that get tempted. People are people. It’s easy to give in when others are doing it too. I don’t blame them even though I wouldn’t do it myself. I would always be the Ken Griffey Jr. and not the Barry Bonds.
And speaking of sports… and that’s where this topic is headed, I want to say a few words about hypocrisy. Our society is filled with it. When Richard Nixon got caught in Watergate, people said that if he was honest about what he did, it would not have been so bad. I say ******** to that. Either way you get hanged. Nixon was a good president despite some of the crooked things he did. I can’t condone what he did nor can I condone what Lance Armstrong did either. But I won’t condemn him either. It may seem that I will try to excuse what he did, but I just want to make a point about level playing field. Either everyone plays by the rules or no one does. Those in charge must not pick and choose who they come down and who they ignore. And that leads me to the biggest cheater of all. No, not Armstrong. The one man who profited the most from sports cheating and has been caught, but never publicly humiliated. Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is well known that he doped. It is no secret or conspiracy. He won all of those Mr. Universe titles which led to his acting career in the United States and eventually the governor mansion in California. Oh, you can say all of the bodybuilders were doping and Arnold was competing on a level playing field. You can say that and add that because of it, he was still superior to all of the bodybuilders. But, if you do, then you have to say the same for Armstrong. It would be naïve to say that others or if not all bikers dope. If that is true, then Armstrong competed on a level playing field. Then he really did win those races and did not gain any kind of advantage. The same is true with Bonds and McGuire. The pitchers were using steroids too and the batters were trying to level the playing field. And the difference here is that steroids was not illegal in baseball at the time. You can’t create a law, then throw people in jail that did the actions before it was enacted. Bonds, Clemons, and McGuire was no more getting advantage than pitchers years ago that used the spitter and shineball before they were banned. They gain an advantage with it, but it was legal. Then afterwards, you could not say that they were cheaters. But, in Armstrong’s sport, doping is illegal. But, so is the shineball and spitball. But, there has been players who got caught using both a few decades ago and they are in the Hall of Fame. Hypocrisy because it’s not about drugs. The New England Patriots where caught cheating in a Super Bowl and there titles were not stripped. Hell, they didn’t even get reprimanded. No. We have to stop picking and choosing who gets reprimanded and who gets away scott free. I learned long time ago that hero’s have feet of clay and have more than a few kinks in their armor. They are men and not demigods with faults like ourselves. I had to get that off of my chest. |

It's a funny world. |
