Hey all,

Is there any book that talks about doing the One Handed Top Palm of a small pack of cards, e.g. to top palm a card from a 2-3 card packet?
I am having trouble of that.

Larry Jennings had a beautiful palm from a small packet but it didn't use only one hand. You will have to dig around to find it though, I forget what it was called.

To LiquidSn,
Well I use the Vernon One Handed Top Palm a lot with a full deck and I can't get it to work well with just two or three cards either. If you can... I'd really appreciate it if you would tell us what you're doing and how you make it work. Thanks in advance for any help.

Side jogging the top card a sliver to the left will get you more than enough room for the right index finger to pick up the card into palm. Also it helps to have the cards bent long ways. (middle section bent upwards while the two side edges goes down)

Also, you can side jog any amount of cards to palm more.

If this was in response to my above post where I didn't remember the name of a wonderful Jennings palm, I was not referring to the Vernon one handed top palm. The Jennings palm from a small packet is taught on the Paris Super Sessions and is a very deceptive palm for a small packet. One of the best, if not the best I've seen.

Holding the small packet ready for the one-hand top palm, tap the tabletop in an indicatory gesture - that gives you the leverage you need for the little finger to pop that top card up into palm position - AS YOU TAP. I think I may have written that idea somewhere years ago. It's what I've personally used for decades. Best - HL.

I find that when doing an OHTP with a little packet, the most difficult for me is to get the card past the thumb. Whenever possible, I hold a break under the top card with thumb. You'll then see that moving the card into palm, by pressing with pinkie as usual, is much easier.

If you can't obtain a break, then making sure that the thumb holds the packet at the very left edge/corner, will facilitate the palm.

I nearly forgot: a very light grip will help too.

Try my suggestion above, Claudio. No break needed.

This is a nice fix. I believe it was first published in the Action Palm booklet.

His is indeed amazing (seen here: http://vimeo.com/14352066). However, I'm not sure how well it would apply to a very small packet like the OP was asking.

@Poonchingyip -- You could also use gravity to compensate for the lack of leverage by executing a sideways or upside-down OHTP. That is, by turning your hand (partially) palm-up in a gesture, so that the fingertips point to the ceiling (or to the side) and the back of the fingers shield the action. I think I used this tip as a "training-wheel" approach when learning the full deck OHTP. (Thanks to Aaron Fisher and Isaac Newton, neither of whom, incidentally, are very economical when it comes to "buying a vowel," for validating my thoughts on this.)

@Bandaloop -- Link's no good, homie.

@Mr. Lorayne -- What exactly is touches the table: the forward-jogged outer-right corner of the card to be palmed --or-- the stationary packet --or-- something else? Thanks for your ubiquitous presence here!

The link itself works, it's just that the ). was included in the anchor tag for some reason.
