Hey guys, I was browsing the other day when I came across this effect called "Falling For You"
http://www.ementalism.com/collections/ne......w-gerard It's by Andrew Gerard. I was intrigued. (Especially by the quotes) so I took the plunge. It's an extremely short ebook and it took me a few reads in order to fully understand how to do it. But soon, I got it down. Here's straight from the ad copy: "Very rarely do I feel that I have created a new plot in card magic that is unique and baffling. This effect and presentation I feel is both..." - Andrew Gerard Effect A spectator is shown a small bunch of cards and is asked to remember one. The cards are mixed and dropped to the ground by a spectator or magician one at a time landing in a neat little pile... except for one. One card takes off and flies towards the person that thought of a card! The card is named, turned over and shown to be the one they thought of! No elastic No reset No threads No magnets No wires Self contained/ self working "Finally a genuine breakthrough in plot and method! I know everyone will be doing this." - Paul Harris --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I decided to test it out. So I threw the gimmick into my deck (About 99% invisible)and went on my way. The first time I performed it, I did it exactly as described by Andrew in the book. I had them think of a card and then turned the pile of cards facedown. I dropped them onto the ground one by one and one card magically landed further from the group. I turned it over and BOOM it's their thought of card. Well the reactions were just okay at best. BUT then I turned the cards FACE UP and let THEM drop the cards. I performed it for some different people. The reactions were INSANE. Out of 6 performances, 4 ended in them laughing at themselves and their "stupidity" (for lack of a better term.) And one of those 4 was my dad who has seen a TON of magic over the years. The other 2 did the usual name-calling (Demon, Possessed, etc.) It is a VERY interesting effect to watch play out. I presented it as a psychological game so to speak. Almost like a lie detector test. "You're going to hold the cards like this and then drop them to the floor one at a time trying to make as neat a pile as you can. Be sure to remain calm on every card. Try not to let me know which one is yours." Then as they are dropping them, their card lands 1-2 feet away from all the other cards. That makes for a pretty comedic moment for them because it is EXTREMELY obvious that they freaked out when they dropped their card, causing it to take a different path than the others. This effect is dead simple. I mean, crazy simple. The gimmick is extremely easy to make. Once made, it is pretty invisible. I think you could easily leave it in your deck without anyone noticing. I also think that if you are going to perform it, you should let the spectator drop the cards. It makes them have no desire to examine the cards at the end because they handled all of them. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just wanted to let you guys know about this effect. It's worth a look and (As stated by Andrew Gerard) It is a completely new plot in magic. Definitely worth the read. |

This came out 5 years ago. You'll probably find some old threads about it.

Don't think so. I've read AOA series from cover to cover multiple times. I've never seen this in it. You must be confusing it with something else.
And Jack, I don't, but I could probably film a short one. Although, I'm not really sure why you need a video, it does exactly what is explained. |

That's cheap for a 5 page booklet. Think I'll buy two.
