I've been considering jumping onto the haunted deck bandwagon, but I wasn't quite sure which method to go with.
I admit I'm tempted to try this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t5ia4NUZsA Has anyone taken the plunge yet? |

Agree. I am tempted also. Looks super and I love the fact that doesn't use any of the conventional methods. I'm one that never has any luck with th*&^d and l*&ps and just don't like using them. This seems to breath some fresh air on the Haunted Deck.
I have been enjoying JM's magic lately, he has been putting out some great stuff. IF you get a chance check out his take on Mercury Rising Aces from his 420 Project. I was complimented recently at a gig in which the spectator thought that was one the finest card effects he has seen using the Ace principle! When the last three Aces turn to Kings- mouths drop!! RNK

I'm not very excited about this. It looks like the method is identical to "Target" by Valdemar Gestur, which only costs $15 and has at least 4 or 5 other effects that go with it. It is shot and explained by Shin Lim and available at Dan & Dave's website: http://shop.dananddave.com/target.html
If the method is indeed different, this could be interesting, but the motion of the deck during the haunting suggests an identical gimmick being involved. Perhaps the handling is different, but I wouldn't pay an extra $15 to lose out on other effects just for 50 "gimmicks" which would cost me $2 and JM's handling of the same effect. Target's version of the "haunted deck" imo is inferior to many of the alternatives available today (Haunted, L***s, IT, etc to name a few), so if this is the same gimmick, I think you'll be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, though. JM has put out some great stuff recently. I can definitely recommend Summons, Mental, and Last Word/Legend, for example. All of those are fine products. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I just don't think this one looks worth getting if I am right about the gimmick. |

I am on the fence here. I certainly do not like the in hands presentation by the performer.

I am offering a new way to perform the haunted pack, if you already have something you use and it works...stay with it! You want the option of under their hands haunting, ecliptic gives you that.

I figure since I'm the one who brought up the alternative effect, it is my responsibility to share a bit of the discussion I had with JM and clear up my prior comments a little. He's explained to me, without tipping the method, some of the major differences between Ecliptic and Target.
From what he's said, although the general 'effect' is similar, it has evolved and been heavily refined, not only in handling but also in construction. To me, the fact that the gimmick has been perfected beyond the initial idea for this effect definitely changes my thoughts on Ecliptic. While I'm still not a fan of this particular type of haunted effect, I would venture that there are others who will love it. |
