Hi everybody,
Could someone who has one or both of these please email me a picture of them. I don’t need but one view. Don’t need it with the tr*ps open or anything. I’m just trying to understand what each one looks like, not how they work. There are several out there for sale and the owners may or may not know what they have. I’m interested in buying both, so I want to be armed with more than just the name of the trick. Thanks a lot, Tom

I guess I should be more specific. I'm talking about Gloves to Dove and Balloon to Dove.
Thanks again Tom

Just go to the Chalet magic website and get the pictures from there.

I guess I just need to know what the Gloves to Dove looks like. Is it different on the outside?

No, The only difference is the release which is a wire on the dove to balloon versus the thread on the glove model.

Thanks Richard. That helps a lot. Doesn't the balloon version also use a 9v battery?

Now your talking about the electronic version. Tat is different than the ones we had been talking about. Works the same, however it is controlled by sound or small key pad.
The effect is the same, however you can have it sitting on a table and be hands free and away from it when it goes off. Personally I don't care for the electronic version, but that is just my opinion. Sam

If you use an assistant to hold the tray, then there is not need for an electronic version. If you are going to purchase a table legs to attach the tray, then the electronic version will work for a tabled top set up. Chalet pictures will do little good, as most of his small props he changes as he see fits. Also there is a long waiting period for his production on his products, when ordered new. If you are thinking about buying direct, then contact him directly. You will have to email him several times or telephone a number of times to reach him. |

I personally use a cheap India-made version. It has a really strong spring in it, thus giving me the proper lift I need.
Most magicians do not perform the dove tray correctly, or I should say the way it should be presented. Chalet is very well made, high quality, and has a nice look and feel as well, but the spring at least for me never was beefy enough. Maybe they have changed over the years, I don't know. All I know is that the one I use is perfect and works flawlessly every time, of course, with my handling and upgrades to make it a better prop. Of course this is all just my opinion, but it is based on 5000 shows using a dove tray. But then again, what do I know LOL As Bill pointed out, it all comes down to what you need and your presentation. Sam

For over thirty years I have used both the Chalet Dove in Balloon and the Chalet Gloves to Dove. I also have both the electronic and manual props. They are a primary effect in my shows. I certainly prefer the electronic models. To the audience they all look the same.
For my Dove in Balloon models I have a Plexiglass box on top. It contains the dove when produced. It also encloses the balloon before bursting it. There is no top for the Gloves to Dove and the dove is free to fly away when produced. Bob |

Thanks a lot Bob. I appreciate knowing what a performer of your caliber uses. I ended up ordering a dove in ballon from George at Chalet. I think I'll begin my search for a good vanishing dove cage (probably Pro-Line) and a Lipan dove frame.
Thanks again, Tom

I have a gloves to dove by Chalet - love it and will never part with it. I drilled holes in the back so the dove can get extra air/ventilation and I found the spring to be just right (fast enough to hide the method but not so strong it launches the dove into the air). It just really creates that perfect moment when you toss the gloves onto it and it just instantly turns into the dove and the dove doesn't move. It's really pretty.

Dan I agree the gloves to dove is really nice. But the spring is a bit different I think then a regular dove tray.
When I'm done this current tour and back home I'm gonna have to get my Chalet dove tray out and test it. It has been years since I have used it and with the way I now handle the dove tray I wonder if I could do it with the Chalet one. But gloves to dove is a sweet eye candy piece of magic. Sam

I use my Chalet (electronic) Gloves to Dove mostly for my Dental Awareness shows. It allows me to trade a soft drink (not recommended for dental health) for a bottle of water. It also emits an electronic flash when the change takes place. The manual props can't do that.
I also have found that the cheaper props are very loud. You'll need to work with music. I must have 4 or 5 different models of the prop. However, I have used the Chalet props for the last 35 years because I simply find them more reliable than any of the others I have. Props that you own but don't use tell a story too! |
