I have used “eating razor blades” for years in my show (I have tried about every method out there) and now I am working on a new character to possibly work in some local carnival/burlesque type shows. The character will sort of be a cross between a sideshow barker and old Vaudeville performer. Anyway, I wanted to add swallowing needles to my act. I used to do the effect a LONG time ago but used a little clear switch pouch to pull it off. I stopped using this method after I had a little tangle and frankly liked the razors better.
Now there are basically two good routines out on the market, Steve Spills' method and "The Needles" by Scott Alexander. Just curious, if you had to choose between the two which do you think is the best. I am not worried about their routine, I will develop my own, I am just looking at the best method. Spills' costs about $50 and Scott's is about $300. Folks busted my chops on the Café a while back because I chimed in on the effect and said it was expensive for what you get. I am OK with the price difference as long as it is worth it. I am actually leaning toward Scott's version because I don't have to hold the needles in my mouth the entire show but I don't really like the idea of having a little cup to deal with. Just curious, which would you prefer if you wanted to add this effect?
