Hello everyone,
I am looking for a nice set of small linking rings for close-up because I am not satisfied with my actual set. I'd like a quality set without aiming for a Rolls Royce you know ? A set that will last long and won't change in aspect over time (I've seen sets going from silver to gold and even some losing bits of chrome everywhere !). Here are some criterias : - color is silver, - can stick firmly to a magnet, - size is close-up (~5 inches // ~12 centimeters), - the welding of each ring is polished and invisible, - contains : key, two single rings (if possible) and one chain of two. If it has only one single ring I could eventually buy a second set. Now you get why I don't want the really expensive set ! Please if you have such a set in your possession or a similar one and know where I can get one that would be great. Maybe there is a dealer out there which can compose a set for regarding the number of keys, chains, singles... that would be perfect. Thanks a lot for the help ! |

Too bad you didn't get a couple of sets from the DollarTree last year. One $1.00 and just what you are looking for.
Put an ad in the "for sale" forum and someone might have some

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, so could you get me some more directions ? Quote:

This is quite different, but this is my favorite linking ring routine EVER! For close-up, you CANNOT beat it, and they can be EXAMINED minutely! Check these out:

Unless you only want the Ninja rings, ala Shoot, I would go for a set of the steel rings about 5 inches in diameter which includes a full set your standard eight. Dai Vernon used a set like these close-up.
Somewhere I have a set of these I would consider selling them, if you are interested PM me.

The second best rings you can get are the Empire cheapo rings. About $10 per set.
The best rings are the OLD Ninja rings by shoot ogawa which aren't made anymore. I have 2 sets and can't imagine parting with one.

Frank, I hear OLD Ninja rings by Shoot Ogawa mentioned. My Shoot Ogawa's rings (From his website) were bought about 2 years ago (cost about $90). Do I have an old set. What's the difference? Thanks

If yours are the gold ones, they are probably just as good as the old ones.
I can't be sure because I've never seen the new ones.

I too would say that if you can ever find an old set of Shoot Ogawa silver rings, those are the way to go. I can vouch for that as I have a set of them.
As for the newer silver rings and from what I am able to tell, the difference is either negligible or not, depending on your preference. The newer rings are not quite as "silvery" - they just do not give off the same 'glow' as the old ones, if that all makes sense. Also, the newer sets to me seem a tad lighter. Now, that does not mean the newer ones are bad, because they are not at all - they are just not quite the same. I would have no idea about the newer gold sets because I have not seen them myself. All of that having been said, the Empire (8 ring set for $10-12, though slightly smaller at 4") set as mentioned above or the Fantasma chrome rings (a set of four, 5" rings for $29.95 - great rings for a great price) or a set of these: http://www.tannens.com/shop//cart.php?m=......l&p=5937 (set of eight, 5" rings). A couple of smaller ring sets to choose from can be found here: http://www.daytonamagic.com/search.php?s......&x=0&y=0 I hope this information is useful to you. |

Thanks a lot guys !
Dr_J_Ayala, I'm asking a few questions the dealer now. Frank, I could not find the Empire set you mentionned... But it sounds very cheap (for such a price there usually is a welding). |
