When being asked to perform at a moment's notice, I do belive you should try to use borrowed props and/or the stuff you have lying around on the bar, like straws, cigs. napkins, peanuts, change and so on. CMH is more suitable in other places like your office or at school.
When laymen see you do routines with Bar stuff it plays big, because if they see you bring stuff they'll think something is "wrong" right away.. -e-

No one mentioned matches yet. I can think of quite a few tricks with matches, and matchbooks. Too bad you can't smoke in bars in CA anymore. They still have matches in most places, but you have to ask for them. They aren't sitting out like they used to be.

I think it all depends on your side of the bar...
if you're behind iot (as a bartender), you can do any impromptu effect that do not lasts too long... If your on the counter (custumer), just make your beer vanish!!! otherwise, any wild bets, canyou's suckers bet, etc. Coins, cigarettes, glasses, cans, business cards (or simply cards), bills, etc. Bar is a great place to do magic as the dim atmosphere works on your side! The best being allways have an "excuse" for the trick... it has to be "on the topic" of the place, or conversation, or what is around you (peanuts, pints, bottle caps, cigs, coins, bills, etc... Here's a good thread of what you can find anywhere : http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......52&3 Cheers!

I like simple coin and money tricks like: "Ghost Bills" or "impromptu Copper Silver". If I have my bent coin(s) in my pocket, I bend coins also, cause this gets huge reactions (imagine this: bartender gives you back your change and you simply, inches from his/her eyes, bend one or even many of those coins and later hand them back as a tip)

Hmmmm interesting as Mike Wild(wildstone) and I are releasing a book on this subject in the next couple of weeks. So my favorites would have to be in that book. But there is one in particular that I really love to do and do every chance I get and that is my two cigerettes having sex routine....Yes that's the name and yes its about a girl and boy cigerette. Not for the weak hearted......Anyway the routine has some magic, some flourishes and leads up to a very funny punch line. But not inteded for birthday party gigs.....

Thanks Steve!
There's a blurb about the book ("Bar Magician") on my website, under the "What's New" heading on the main page. There's tips, tricks, advice, and of course a bunch of routines in the book. And it's not just coin magic this time... Todd talked me into including other stuff as well On topic... my favorite bar tricks are (in no particular order) 1. Todd's floating Bill (from "Bar Magician") 2. Equinox (C/S routine from "Tavern Magic 2") 3. Nummus Incurvus (visual coin bend in "Bar Magician") 4. Ace Kicker (my little secret ) 5. Anniversary Waltz Best, Mike |

It is always goosd to play with corks in bars...
cork through table, apparing/ disaparing... There's also the puzzle of separating 2 corks that can be presented as a trick
