I recently purchased the Dan Harlan all purpose show on DVD and I thought that I would post here to tell you guys that for anyone that is just starting out on the rings and wants to learn a simple and effective linking ring routine this would be ideal. There are no difficult moves however it is a very well structured rouitine with great audience involvement.

There is none easier to do that is funnier than Whit's four ring routine. It is as easy to do as drinking water. Smile

I agree with Pete...no matter what type of audience you have (kids or adults) Whit's four ring routine is wonderful! Highly recommended!

I hope this helps,

Never heard or seen this routine? What are some written or video sources of this wonderful routine to which you speak?

Whit Haydn's routine is available at his site here. Just browse down. It takes a few seconds to load the first time you visit.

Another dvd that is very powerful is Chris Capeharts three ring routine.
and can be done as a walk around if desired.

I gotta get me one of these (Whit's routine).
In search of a routine, I started to read the routine in "The Art of Close-up Magic" and recently just got Nina Rings off ebay (not sent yet). I don't want to clutter my mind.

Whit's site seems to have major problems right now.
Can't get to it at all.

Once he masters these Frank'll tackle the more challenging Pinta Rings, finally graduating to the incredibly difficult Santa Maria rings.

;)

Add another vote for Whit's routine. I use a variation of it all the time.

What are Ninja rings? Something you get after winning the Ninja Superbowl?

The ring routine itself is as easy to do as drinking water, but to perform it as comically as Whit is as difficult as drinking homemade whiskey. Smile

Seriously, now, I agree with the consensus that Whit's comedy Linking Ring routine is superb.

Let me suggest a few more routines:

1) Dick Stoner's Comedy Linking Rings, performed and explained in his video "I Spell Magic F-U-N". The routine includes a sequence where a ring links with Dick's coat through a buttonhole, and when he tries to pry it free with a pair of scissors, the ring and the scissors link.

2) Terry Seabrooke’s The Linking Rings for Kids, performed and explained in his ”Magic is Entertainment!” video. The routine also includes the ring-buttonhole link. Aside from the Linking Ring routine, you get four other comedy routines from the tape. If memory serves me right, I bought my copy of the video from Steven’s Magic Emporium several years ago.

3) If you want a solid Linking Ring Routine for kids, you may want to check David Ginn’s booklet “Comedy Linking Rings”.

Just to set the record straight... the linking ring caught in buttonhole, then scissors, dates back to England and to George Blake. It is written up in his book, "Comedy Magic." I started doing this about 30-plus years ago. Topper Martyn also developed his routine from Blake's.

The bent rings from the audience, often attributed to Merv Taylor, was in fact from British Music Hall performer Arthur Dowler (who also created the table that the legs fall off and are replaced with cutout lady's legs).

Is the routine finished with the scissors still on the rings?

I don't use the routine from the Ninja Rings DVD, but it taught me so much about the techniques. It made my routine 100% better. I would reccomend getting it, even if you don't use the routine.

Not when I do it, the scissors come off, then I finish with a variation of the Al Koran 3 Ring Routine and my own closing "slomotion" gag unlink.

I cannot for the life of me get to Whit Hayden's URL
to purchase the rings video.

I was able to use http://www.anonymizer.com and access it but I'm not sure what that means.

Regardless, I cannot purchase the video/dvd for the rings.

Is there a way to contact Whit or purchase the video elsewhere?

Is the video available in NTSC format?

thanks,frank
