As the title suggests I'm a complete wally when it comes to anything sound related. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for but I'll try my best to explain. (Start's miming)

I need a piece of technology that will allow me to control my music via Ipod wirelessly. What I would like to accomplish is to play a song, once the song has ended the next piece of music will not start untill I press a button in my pants pocket. The songs also will have to be in a set order, not all jumbled up.

Thanks for your help! Josh.

Hello Josh,

You are looking for an RF (radio frequency) remote control system. The one I and many other here use is an iJet NAV: http://www.buyijet.com/remotes/inav-boss......t-1.html

They also have it in white. If you look at the main page ( http://www.buyijet.com/remotes.html ) , you'll see they currently have a 5% off code (Save5off). They do special codes regularly.

To make it easy to discern which button is which in my pocket, I have glued decorative flat back rhinestones to the buttons. They're available in different sizes at arts and crafts stores, like Michaels. http://tinyurl.com/dy2y2v9

Now, how you get the music to stop at the end of a track depends on what kind of iPod you are using. If you are a Nano or Classic, you'll have to use silent tracks (20 minutes or longer) between each piece of music and use the skip forward button if your song has not ended when you need to stop it or, if it does end on cue, just let it run to the silent track. When you are ready to play the next track, click the skip forward button and you'll go to the next piece of music. It's very simple and effective. You do need to make sure your iPod is set not to lock. By keeping a track playing at all times (silent or music), the iPod doesn't go to sleep.

You'll set up your playlists in iTunes.

This will also work with an iPod Touch but there are also apps available to add other functions to a Touch, most significantly auto fade when you end a track early. I am currently using PlayMyQ HD, which is a very inexpensive app. It's not the prettiest option but does work well. See this thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=11&39 Play close attention to the setting gothike posted there. I use the iJet Remote I linked to above with this app.

A more expensive option but more polished and full featured is Show Cues: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=11&244 There's lots of discussion in that thread about Show Cues, which also uses an iJet Remote. A special version of the remote is being sold by the Show Cues creators that enables better fading but Carl Andrews, who developed the app, has an update coming shortly that is supposed to make the fade work properly with a standard iJet Nave remote.

With PlayMyQ HD and Show Cues, you can import playlists easily into the apps to work. The nice thing about the apps is that you don't need silent tracks to make them work.

Please note that the iJet remote docks are 30-pin connectors and not the Lightning connector now used with the current iPod Touch (5th generation) and iPod Nano (7th generation). If you have one of the latest models of these, you'll have to use an Apple 30-Pin to Lightning adapter.

If you are open to using a custom music system that works wirelessly but costs considerably more, than you can look at the MP3Tech ($1,395 without the wireless display) from Creative Entertainment Solutions: http://www.theceswebsite.com/catalog/audio/mp3tech/ or the Ultimate Control ($449) by HappieAmp: http://happieamp.com/ultimatecontrol.html

Hope this helps.

Wow, I just got spoiled. Thank-you Michael for your help. I'll look into all of the threads you've linked me too and decide from there.

May I ask one more question. What would be the best way to connect my Ipod in conjunction with the Ijet to an amp like this:

I will be using the whole sound system for busking! Can't wait.

Thanks again, Josh

Josh, I have the Roland Cube CM-30, which is similar to the Cube Street you linked to. I use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo cable to plug into the Stereo Aux In input. You control volume with the iPod's volume and the main volume for the PA. Here's the type of cable I'm referring to: http://tinyurl.com/cxwlky5

By the way, which iPod are you using?

Right now I'm using a hand-me-down iphone 4s. I'm debating whether I should buy something new to fit par. Like a touch or classic.

The iJet NAV should work fine with the iPhone 4s and you can use either of the apps I listed above: PlayMyQ HD and Show Cues. The 4s is basically the same as my 4th Generation iPod Touch except you have a phone in yours!

I'm just worried about the battery life of the Iphone 4s. It only lasts 2 to 3 hours! Rubbish I tell you! I'll have to bring along an extra battery or a power source.

Josh,

It's might either be a firmware issue with the 4S or a weak battery. If you turn off Bluetooth, wifi and place phone in airplane mode then you should see the battery last longer. Now some iOS firmware have better battery life.

If you need a new battery try EBAY, should be around $20 and you also need the special screw driver. I replaced my girlfriends battery from watching a YouTube video.

Now for the software and remote just read what Michael posted.

Forgot to mention that you might want to invest in an IPad, it will give you a larger screen space. I personally use the 1st gen IPad with no 3G. It runs the app PlayMyQHD flawlessly, perfect fade and auto pause.

Hey Look At This!

http://amzn.com/B00490OVM0

Its a 30 pin adapter with a 3.5 mm jack out and usb charging cable. Supposing you brought a cord, the ipod can run uninterrupted, charged, etc.

Neat little thing, helps as well if the headphones and dock are side by side.

I use an ipod nano. Its tiny and won't run any apps.

I mention it because if you do not need fading, then an ipod nano is sure to run for a lot longer than the iphone battery.

Also, in case you use a double male extension with the amp, a double female coupler is a good thing to have with the usb/jack cord.
