I recently purchased some Mak Effects and they didn't have any directions.

FLaming Head Chest, Crystal Silk Cylinder and Magicians Dream Production.

I have some other Mak effects directions that I can trade or I will buy a copy.
I know how to do the effects, I just want these for completeness. Thanks for any help.
Looking for fans of the Mak Magic to check out and join my Mak Magic Blog.

Just ask the folks at Mak. They are typically good with providing instructions if you own the effect.

The older Egption Water boxes (on your blog) were made by my mentor, James Swoger. Thise were made when Grant was the owner. Most of the products were good in the 70's and the 80 and part of the 90s IMO

I stopped selling MAK items because of their terrible customer service and attitude. I'm not alone. They shipped me Chen Lee's when the paint cracked right-off the metal because rust had formed on the metal and there was no undercoat. I called and they told me the products were perfect when they left the warehouse and they weren't fixing anything. Another time I received a milk in Lightbulb without the fancy wire gimmick and I got the same response that it was in the package when it was sent and they weren't sending another one. I'm not the only person who's had problems either. On another occasion I was at another big costume/magic distributers warehouse and saw a bunch of their items on a table - all cracked, broken and chipped. I said "I bet I know what happened. They won't replace anything because they said it left the factory in perfect condition and you're stuck with it". Lee said "That's exactly correct. When I call to report problems they yell at me" Take it for what it's worth. Anyone want photos of drawer boxes that wobble when set on a flat surface, I've got them. Anyone want photos of broken 3D bunny boxes, that came that way from the factory. I've got them too.

When the company was run by Sr, It was a much better business (And when it was Grant's company it was even better) but when they started to have their own products made in India......

Just my opinion.

Some of the original Grant items are hard to beat. Grant was a prolific inventor. He singlehandedly invented at least a hundred fifty items. Early on, he partnered with Menge a few years. Menge was a brilliant designer but Swoger said he was tippin the bottle by 10 am and that's why Grant moved-on I just found a set of directions for Mengies vanishing glass which is funny because I also have a set of instructions that suggests Grant was the inventor. The difference eas that Grant had the glass vanish into a tin and Menge didn't. Then Arturo (sp) worked for Grant. Then Arturo went-out on his own making Grant items and Grant never put his foot down. Swoger said Arturo must have had something over Grant otherwise Grant would have said no.

Then Grant was back on his own and found JKsr who supplied paint (as the story goes) and JKsr talked Grant into the manufacturing as well. I might have the exact chronilogical order out of place but it's close enough fir me to say that I have some knowledge of the company.

I know a lot more but let me finish by saying that the DVD set about MAK didn't even come close to showing the entire story or giving enough info. And again it's just my opinion BUT I have a notebook from Grant filled with letters, coorspondance and order forms that could tell the story better. I also have 40 or so illustrations from Dave Elder (original artwork) from many of the cataloges that Grant put- out because Jim Swoger printed them. So many of the advertisments and artwork became "stock" artwork for MAK. So it's not like I'm talking through my hat here. When I say that I'm not too happy with Jr, its for specific reasons.

I got the Head Chest and Silk Cylinder directions from the Mak folks and they are looking for the Magicians Dream for me.
They have been very kind and I thank them.
the 1st Egyptian water box on the blog is mine. Which is the Older?
I love talking about the effects and methods of Grant
and would love to talk with you one day Mr. Leslie, thanks for your comments.
Back in the early and mid 70s, when I was a teenager, I collected a few Mak tricks.
The Mak catalog was worn out as I looked over the stuff and wondered how it worked. I know the paint jobs are often made fun of
but I always liked them and thought they were interesting and flashy. For me it's a personal fondness for the time and place in my journey with magic.
I am looking for a Jimmy King Vanishing Cube , A Grants Potato Box and A Witch Doctor Can.
Thanks

I too own the Magician's Dream production. I lost the instructions many years ago. I purchased it from Louis Tannen NYC back in the early 80's.Would love to find a copy of the instructions.

Jay,
It is time for you to do a book and write some of this stuff down for the history and collector's.
