I am interested in purchasing a used Kem Poyner Bobby figure. I would also consider his Casey figure, or something very similar. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Hi!

I have 2 boy figures for sale.
They are not made by Poyner, but they are cute.
One is comparable to Casey in the looks department.

Check them out at my website.
Please write if you have any questions.

What material are used for the heads of the professional figures? The same as Selbergs Living Puppets? Or wood?

Like the Living Puppets, the majority of figures today are made of a compo (composition) material.
The two figures that I am selling are compo heads and hands.

That Homer figure is like my Louie Loggerhead figure (same mold).

Kem Poyner does excellent work, and a drunken bum figure
provides great laughs (unless you're doing kid shows).

Poyner's website can be found at http://ventriloquistdummy.com/

Is the quality, use, material the same as a Selberg figure?

I might want to order a Bobby figure. But I might also stick with Selberg figures....

Any advice in this would be great Smile

I've never had a Selberg, never had any interest in them, but I've had a figure made by Kem Poyner. I found it to be a very nice piece of work that I have no doubt would have been a fine figure for years to come. The only reason I don't have it anymore is because it was a female figure, and I realized there was just no way I was going to be able to do a female voice, at least not one that I was satisfied with. I kept the figure for a bit because I couldn't stand the thought of giving it up, but finally realized I needed to sell it to someone who could use it. I have no hesitation recommending his figures, I would like to get another one of his figures someday.

They are are no where near to a Selberg.

I had a "bobby" figure. The body is made from fibreglass in two pieces (top and bottom) which separated apart because it eventually became unstuck and the legs worked their way away from the body. His head was quite heavy, eyes are painted. I didn't enjoy the controls because the way the mouth mechanism was done it would pinch my figure every time I used the trigger, the trigger protruded slightly on the other side of the head stick which caused the pinching.

Here's an image of the body

Did you buy that figure used? I just wonder if you got an older figure. Like everyone else, his early figures had their issues as he was learning, I can tell you the same is true of Cowles, and probably many others. I didn't have any of these issues when I bought mine new at the convention when I went, it was a fine piece of work.

Fair enough. Maybe it was an earlier version. Still I couldn't compare to Selberg, I think Alfaro would be a better comparison.

I think saying it couldn't compare to Selberg, is a matter of personal belief and/or preference.
I could name at least a half dozen makers for whom I think a Selberg can't begin to compare to, but again, that would be a matter of my own personal preference and belief.

That body has certainly been run around the block more than once.

Even a Selberg figure, if it's used and abused badly enough,
will not operate as it was originally intended.

I had 2 Bobby figures from Kem Poyner... really cute figures and the mechanics are reliable.

I certainly wont compare them to a Selberg. Poyner and Selberg are both fantastic figure makers.

The Poyner Bobby is cartoony and kid friendly....perfect for kidshows.

Why, Wanlu, did you have two?
Was one a back up figure?
Or did you have a twin act?
