Got bad news today. Dad's leukemia is entering its last phases. Chemo and bone marrow no longer work and this will be his last dose of platelets tomorrow. Looks like it's down to weeks.

It is a terrible time but you are there for him and that is the best you can do.

Times like these let you know how important you are in your Family's support system.

Find a book or work on a memory system to fall back on while you are sitting next to your sleeping Dad.
It can keep you from dwelling on the worst aspects.

Tell or write your Dad a note telling him how important he is in your life.
Even the best people can belittle the use of their time on earth at the end. They can need reassurance that they made a difference in your life.
Some of the drugs that can be in use (or the depression of the whole situation) can make them forget how special they are. They just aren't thinking clearly.
