I am exploring the topic of service. What makes service important in your opinion?

What kind of service are you talking about? Military? Civilian? Volunteer? Customer service? Not sure I follow your line here. Or is your question all inclusive of service in general?
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I have mixed feelings about customer service. Some outfits do a great job, others don't. I don't do robo calls, incoming or outgoing.
As for volunteering, everyone should try it. It's good for the soul. Service to country should be mandatory in some way shape or form for everyone for one to two years, assuming one is healthy enough and able to do so. It's not much to ask in order to pay one's country back. One doesn't need to lift a weapon to serve one's country. There are countless ways and means to accomplish this. Postal service? Sorry to see Saturday go, but it's been inevitable for some time now. Internal Revenue Service? Why do they even call this a service? Does that work for starters?

"I slept and I dreamt that life is all joy; I awoke, and I saw that life is all service; and I saw that service is joy"
- Khalil Gibran The gradual recognition that we are all so intimately connected with each other and other living things is a natural progression in the spiritual evolution of social consciousness. What do I mean by this? Science is gradually discovering intimate links between entities that were from the beginning of time assumed to be UN-linked. The human body for example is a single entity. Did you know that the health of your gums in your mouth is intimately linked to the health of your heart? (http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/features/periodontal-disease-heart-health) Humanity as a global body, can likewise be likened to the human body. We can, today, see, more so than ever the effects of happenings in society on our personal lives (even if these happenings occur in foreign lands) Service is the natural human response to that realisation, that evolved consciousness that we are all in reality one, to such an extent that harm to someone in North Korea is intimately related to harm to oneself. I could elobarate much more with scientific data etc that explores this, social studies, psychology etc etc, but hopefully that will reveal itself as this thread evolves Kam

I'm not surprised at anything I see in this forum. Sooner or later some will ring in, or not, in the interests of sharing information. Some will ring in purely to take issue with something said and to challenge. That's fine. So let's see where it goes. Worse comes to worse, it's just you and me talking about service till there's nothing else to be said.

I reckon you are right Bob1Dog. I am going to continue to monitor this thread but right now I have to get back to work, researching and writing and practicing.

Hey Bob1Dog,
I was wanting to hear your opinion on something. I would say that it is through service that we realize that anything is possible and that the impossible is indeed possible. Agree or disagree with that statement?

I guess I don't have enough experience at service to qualify myself except that I've served in the following capacities: Four years military service. Four years volunteer service, reading for the blind on radio broadcast Numerous free magic shows for charities (despite objections from friends in the magic community that I should charge for my services) Thirty years corporate service. Yup. Service is service, no matter how you cut it. And I was paid for it. Very well. But I worked my butt off and earned every dollar and indeed I did serve the company I worked for. My record of promoting women and minorities in the thirty years of my corporate experience permits me to leave this earth knowing I made a difference. That's all that matters to me. Would be happy to elaborate, but only privately, since I don't think anyone really cares, nor should they. So, to respond to your original question, I'm not sure that I would say that ANYTHING is possible, or the the IMPOSSIBLE is possible, those are pretty extreme cases. But someplace in the middle, all things are possible. Hope this helps.

It is important for you all to wake up before its too late and realize that you have all been serving the Devil.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

It's important because everyone needs to get serviced once in a while.
