Is that die-cipher II?
|

Nicolino Inner circle 2893 Posts |
Yes, looks like!
Not sure about the exact name, though, but I have in it my collection. Will check... [...] Alright, I own two versions, obviously. Didn't even know.... One is the original DC-2 and it does NOT look like the one in the picture -> DC-2 has no grooves in the lid! Check this for reference: http://magicfakers.blogspot.de/2007/10/die-cipher-ii.html The one listed on magicexpress.jp is the other version I have but it was relabeled by the German dealer and does not show its 'original' name.... As for the difference between I and II: Dave V pointed out, that the first version was lacking the "nub" in the lid that allowed you to more accurately read the number.Â

I like Die-Cipher II. I have had it for a long time and nobody has figured out how it is done. There are different ways to do it so if you are not comfortable with one way you have a few others to choose from. I would like to have the ESP cube for the brass version which is what I have. Would make it more appealing as a mind reading effect I think.

How different is Die Cipher from Die-abolical Die?

Isn't "Die-abolical Die" the one by Lubor?

The one pictured is a Die-Cypher 2. The spectator places the die in the brass box with chosen number facing up. The performer takes the brass box and announces the chosen number. Clever.
Lubor's Die-Abolical Die relies on a completely different principle. The spectator places the die on the table (or any surface) with chosen number facing up and covers it with his hand (or cup, etc). Then the magician takes the die back, put it aside and announces the chosen number. This one is VERY clever. |

To further confuse you: there is also a Tony Curtis item named Die-Abolical Die, that's why I was asking which you were refering to, Richard.
I agree with Simon, Lubor's approach is - as always - very devious. And let me re-emphasize that the shown item on the above website does indeed work just like Die Cipher 2 - but is not what the original one looks like! You can clearly see on various renowned dealer sites that the original does not have grooves on the top lid! However, since I own both versions (with and without the grooves), I can confirm their working is identical.

I started collecting this effect for awhile and have about 10 different ones, can confirm Nicolino is correct. I always thought the method for Lubor's Roentgen Box was very cool.

Lubor's Roentgen Box is unique, indeed! Unfortunately, I can perform it only during summer time (about 3 weeks a year in Quebec!). I'm also collecting those kind of dice effects (only the ones with different methodology...as possible). I'm curious about the 10 different ones you have in your attic... Hope to see it "live" in Toronto next week! (Don't worry John, I'll bring my non transitive dice...)
PS. BTW, Lubor's Die-abolic is even better in winter time |

I'm familar with Lubor's effect--in fact, I think the one I bought from Tannen's as a kid is in the drawer.
I'm referring to Kondo's Die-abolical Die (TC-2, I think). |

This is my first time posting anything on this site and sadly my inexperience may present itself. However, I am desperate to find a solution to the issue that is presently taking time and effort to solve; I am a teacher in a school and have inherited a number of wonderful magical items. One of the items is I believe an ESP Die-Cipher II. My problem lies with the fact that I understand elements of this trick, I have no instructions or guidance and therefore when I try to perform it as a special reward for the children, I may end up getting it so wrong. I have been able to tell if the shape is a circle or addition sign, a star or triangle sign or a square and a wave sign; but I can't distinguish between the two. Can anyone help me please? I would be extremely grateful.

I have them both. Die cipher has 2 rings on the top and an aluminium die. Die Cipher 2 is all brass and has a raised up area on the bottom. These were released by Chazpro when they had a shop in Eugene, Oregon maybe 18 years ago. Both are very good. Die cipher 2 can be read without handling it at all. Chazpro then released an ESP version. Fantastic and mind blowing!

Chazpro still sells it, although the one shown on their website doesn't have the grooves. They also have a stainless steel version with an ESP cube.
