I have just ordered a new puppet, he's not of the standard most people on here are using but I have only just started vent. He is a black crow / raven with a black top hat with an ace of spades in the hatband. He seems to have loads of character & I can't wait for him to arrive but I have a dilema.
I am trying to give him a fairly harsh voice and, although I'm English, I want him to have a deep south / voodoo man type of voice. The trouble I'm having is that when I use this voice, it sounds like I am trying to make him sound as if he is black (he is but that's not the point)
Although I am happy with the voice, I am worried about the political correctness of it. The last thing that I want to do is upset anyone so I am asking for your advice please.

The voice, in my mind, suits the puppet but should I use it?

Many thanks in advance
Bill

Black? Political Correctness? Can I introduce you to MJ LOL

As long as the voice and character doesn't sound like you're trying to denigrate then you should be okay.

Thank you Aussie. The crow will be the one who gets the better of me so no, no denigration.

Hi folks, after doing some script writing last night, and I moved the emphasis to just me trying to find out what his real name is, he cales himself "aces". This caused the voice to changed slightly and removed the problem completely as he now just sounds like a talking crow.

Thank you for the advice, it is always gratefully received

Have fun

I know the crow you purchased I have been contemplating him myself. Love the name you gave him. Keep working with him you've made a good choice.

Go against type as they say in Hollywood. Give him a voice no one would expect.

That's good advice. Maybe you could give him a gruff or an effeminate voice??

Thank you, I am. I know my routines will be a bit basic at first but I am having fun.

Neale & Aussie, thank you for some great advice, I had toyed with this with a friend but they said it didn't suit the figure but, if I'm honest, I liked it & may audience test it with children this weekend.
