I have seen the previews for some time and also there is an Article in the latest issue of Magic magazine about this as well. I am looking forward to going to see it.

It looks like it's either going to be really good or really bad. Let's hope for the former. A really bad movie about magicians that goes into the toilet on opening weekend will scare off movie execs from future projects involving magicians as subjects.

I'm betting it's going to be hilarious. I don't think Alan Arkin would be associated with it if it wasn't (great comedian himself). Not a big fan of Carell, but this looks great!

People in a movie often have no idea whether it's going to be good or bad. They don't know what's going to happen in the editing room, whether the studio will impose an edit upon the director, or whether they were all just hoping that even though the script wasn't all that good, that when it's edited together something magical will happen.
It's a crap shoot and, as William Goldman famously said, "[In Hollywood] Nobody knows anything." |

This movie (trailer) absolutely does not appeal to me...I prefer The prestige...

The Prestige is a GREAT movie.
Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are both great in it, plus an honorable nod for the ever consistent Mr. Cain. |

The Prestige was a Great Movie, this is a different kind of magic movie than the Prestige which was very serious. If you read the article in "Magic" magazine, though a comedy, it sounds like this will have some good magic in it as well and be sort of an "Homage" to the good ole days of the big splashy magic shows ala Siegfried and Roy. Its basically a story about the new style of magicians (street magic if you will,Blaine and Angel) stealing the limelight from the big stage shows (Siegfried and Roy etc). I'm not giving anything away here as this is the basic premise. I'm looking forward to it and hope it won't let me/us down.

I hated The Prestige. All the characters were peckerheads--no one to root for. You need a protagonist you can like in a film. The out of left field sci-fi ending was just absurd.
I thought that The Illusionist with Edward Norton was a much finer film. |

I thought this was an excellent movie as well and agree with Richard's comments that it is in fact a better movie (for entertainment sake) than the Prestige which I also thought was good. I did not realize that they both came out at in the same year. I believe I saw both of these either on Cable or DVD and not when they originally came out so that is why I was unaware they came out at the same time. Edward Norton was very good in this. He's pretty good in anything he does.
