Imagine what could happen if you put this on your face... still in progress - the Yellow Sign and area around it need to be darkened and nightmares up a bit... but almost there... What happened if I told you this thing is not just an inanimate object... it can whisper secrets of darkness... allow glimpses into black universes... and perhaps...perhaps.. Well, I hope it all works out! However if all trace of my existence is erased from this reality once the project is complete - see you in Carcosa someday!!! Otherwise... Camilla, Cassilda and others will be on the way!

Fantastic stuff Sir, the whole concept of wearing a mask is such an intriguing one.

Indeed - keep your 8 eyes peeled for more on the GUEST from Outlaw...
Once I heard the concept of THE GUEST a while back - I got struck by a yellow light and said... hmmm... (as the original mask concept was supercool but not what I would use for my dark nightmare presentations) - the PALLID MASK!!! Then, beyond the original concept, I've been dreaming up a ton of mask-related themed ideas - just talking with Rick regarding it all. I just wanted to share my mask project as its fun fun fun! Plus - its not just about hype... The "core" mask design concept its spooky and ancient -and not Yellow Sign branded - plus I believe there may be a way to make every Guest unique... just checking with Rick about a few things and you shall perhaps see a neat idea for if you want your own GUEST at home

When I first shared the mask concept to Rick, the initial sculpt was already finished.
The idea was that the mask would become possessed by a demon that would be able to answer questions as a whisper through it. Docc's Whispering Buddha style, using suggestion and atmosphere to create the illusion of movement, the face showing displeasure or a smile. It evolved into many many presentation concepts, from the mask serving as the medium during a seance, to becoming a guest at the table. Wearing it gives the performer special insight, or allows the sitter to see visions, or to separate the living from the dead. Writing a manual has been a HUGE undertaking, as no stone was left unturned. This idea has been very special to me for a long time. A mask should not be thought of as only a vessel, vacant, yawning wide, waiting to be indwelt and inhabited. We imagine there is nothing behind the eyes, that they see nothing, they feel nothing. We fancy the mask was made to conceal, to hide, but this is not so... Masks were made to reveal, to establish personality, to imbue the wearer with spirit and to possess those who might don the mask with a new character. The mask has more symbolism than most care to imagine. While it has no lungs, throat, or tongue, and no soul to give it life... No breath of its own, to form those haunting hushed whispers from beyond, we give ourselves over to the mask, we offer our very breath to give the mask voice. In truth, it is not we who wear the mask, it is the mask that wears us. People are not the only ones able to wear the mask, and masks are not always inanimate things. They are incarnate as well... We can be masks. We inhabit this dwelling of flesh and bone, the form our spirit is hewn to and without we become discarnate. We wear this flesh as anyone might wear fashionable attire, ready to cast it off and shed this itchy mortal coil. Sometimes, something might hide behind our eyes other than ourselves. We like to think we are alone inside of our own minds, that we do not share our bodies with another, surely we are vessels only for our own habitation. Parasites do exist, we know they itch and crawl under our skin on occasion and bring a disquieting whisper echoing inside of our minds. If something made of flesh, like ourselves, could crawl inside and cohabitate in our most sacred of retreats, is it possible something akin to our other half might also crawl inside? Something, a being of spirit, might wriggle and worm its way into our lives and take more than a simple pound of flesh. Since the earliest times of recorded history, mankind has feared the unknown. The strange sounds from the edge of the camp have been a source of nightmares since man first left the trees. Our entire genetic memory has a map for survival printed inside of our very souls. Should we ignore this guiding legacy, we may find ourselves taking the wrong path at an important fork in the road. One of the most impressive nightmares imprinted onto this road-map of survival are the haunted fantasies of Demonic origin. We see horrible faces grinning with malice and contempt for our very souls slithering in the shadows at night. These night gaunts, these malefic beings have created such a deep scar on our ancestral tree, that one could scarcely contend that such a profound effect could have occurred simply from religious indoctrination! It is quite possible that the ravings of men thought of less than sound mind, may indeed hold some dark and horrible truth. We are not alone. Assault from beings of terrestrial origin might intend to challenge us for authority over our very homes! Not homes of brick and wood, but our dwellings of flesh and form in which we reside exclusively! Thankfully the dead and ***ed have other means to communicate with our world. In patients with D.I.D. (Dissassociative identity dissorder) where the other personalities have been interviewed, 29% of these alter personalities identify themselves as demons. The Guest. This has been in the works for a long time now... A very long time actually. |

Hey Cody!
Yep, that is the original concept mask I saw from Rick. As mentioned, I loved it - but I'm so twisted I needed to make a OOAK for me as the mask looked to happy for moi! Masks are a cool concept - I've been working with it for years too - and when BAUTA came out from Scott Grossberg - it even added more dimensions to using these for readings. I once did an entire Weighing of the Souls stage presentation where participants got to wear handmade masks of Egyptian gods (anubis, thoth, osiris)... and had a wonderful Ammut soul devourer in the shadows... sounds and suggestions! My own concept of what I am running with currently with the concept beyond the core effect- is to do an entire masquerade seance.... hee hee... Also, I've been working on some angles to make a mask pulse with a heartbeat - or have people put it on and see things no one else sees... because it opens other dimensions! Anyway, glad to see you back! I was unaware there was a manual being written... sounds great. FYI for the Record - I came into this just recently (early January I think) ... the only things I am adding are my own whacked out King in Yellow Concepts...the mask is my own design as mentioned...and the evil masque seance - and also have due to this ended up finding mask makers around the world for making a variety of visages - I now got connections in Venice of all places! I knew Cody, Rick and Tim were already working on concepts. I want to make it clear I do not believe I have made any claims that the original concept of what Cody just posted was mine... I am just inspired and wanted to help out with the launch. Anyway - if somehow I have done anything wrong, I am happy to correct it. Else, I am happy to proceed in an open and transparent manner to help launch this cool project... because I love masks!!!

Great work all round chaps!
Bruce, your Egyptian weighing of the souls reminds me of scenes from John Fowles' book "The Magus"... powerful, affecting stuff!

Weirdly enough - that is NOT where I got the inspiration - as a kid reading Gold Key The Occult Files of Dr. Spektor - there was one issue where the evil living Mummy Ra-Ka-Tep transports the heroes to the afterworld...and there is a scene of weighing of the hearts and having ammut show up and eat up the soul of the villain at the end... always stuck with me! Death masks of the Egyptians and so on...hmmm... Aside: My favourite thing from the Magus is the Cyanide teeth that actually turn out to be candy

This is so freaking cool I can't even tell you. This is way-out-of-the-box thinking. Imagine the stories you can weave with this. Masks are ancient and powerful, but also familiar and approachable. This could wreak some serious havoc.
How much money will Outlaw/Carcosa take from me? Apparently a whole lot more... Congrats to the entire team. This is the stuff dreams are made of. Or rather, nightmares.
